I thought this could be played on older computers?!?!?!
What is this 2.5 year old stuff?
I mean when someone say you can use old stuff I think it mean it can work on a computer from 2005 or 2006!

Not just routers, but 2.5 year old video cards won't work well. Anyways, anything older than 2.5 year old may work, but it is recommended to have the newest computer and router.
I'm playing on a machine I built in '06 and have the settings mostly at medium, with shadows off. It runs pretty well. Only really see lag issues when playing online which likely points to network bottlenecks not proccessing power.

I built this rig when I heard about Supreme Commander launching in Feb 07 and knew my previous rig wouldn't cut it. If you can run SupCom, you can run DG as it runs on the same engine. I don't think the specs are at all unreasonable for a 2009 AAA title.
For around 50 dollars you can get a video card that can play this like a dream

"Best experience possible" does not mean the "Game will not run unless".
If your video card is over 2.5 years old, the game can still run. Will you getting the "best experience"? Of course not - it's foolish to think otherwise.
It can, it just won't be the best experience possible. If you've got any piece of technology that is more then 6 months/1 year old, your probably aren't going to get the best experience possible. There's always new better stuff coming out.
