Single Player Questions

Good Afternoon all,

I was hoping to get some insight into single player modes, I'm not really a fan of multiplayer and interacting with people that are sometimes overly competitive or childish.

In single player, I read somewhere that there is a campaign like mode where you can level up your demi-god.  I was wondering however, does the single player also support a skirmish mode playable against the AI, to where you can level up your demi-god(s) for offline use only?  Or is the leveling up only in campaign and on a multiplayer tournament basis?  (for example, you start with a level 1 demi-god and 3 skirmishes later you've leveled up to 4)

Dawn of War 2 features a skirmish where you can purchase upgrades for units but leveling only takes place in the campaign, I was curious if this had the same mechanic?

The teaser trailer looked great, I more than likely will buy this as RTS is one of my favorite types of games, and I really enjoyed DOW2.

Thanks!

I have to inform you, this is not a true RTS. If you have ever played DotA, HoSK, AoS, or any similar warcraft 3 map, that is the closest game to this. It's more oriented with one hero-type unit, and multiple people per team, so, for example, 3 people each with a hero fight three other people each with a hero. Anyway, it's more action-oriented and yes there is strategy to it, just not in the vein you're thinking by mentioning DOW2.

That's cool, thanks for the insight.  I have never played, or heard of DOTA for that matter before today.  I know it won't be as RTS oriented as say C&C or Starcraft, but DOW2 was quite action oriented with less emphasis on the RTS base building elements and I really enjoyed it.  I have an open mind so I'm sure I'll enjoy this as well.

Actually, this game is very similar to DoW2 since you like Dow2.   In DoW2, you pick a commander and you get to level up that commander, pick which skills he gets, and pick what kind of armor/weapon he gets.

Demigod is the same thing, except the whole game you only control 1 commander and nothing else.   There is no base building like in DoW2.  In DoW2, you find yourself capturing areas, running to another area and capping that area.   Demigod is the same thing, you are running back and forth between 2 flags to capture it.

As for the single player mode, my understanding is that you start at level 1 at every skirmish so they don't carry over.  So 4 skirmishes later, you still start at level 1.  You might get some flavor points that acts as upgrades but they don't mean much.  Eventually by the 8th skirmish, you beat the game.

This game is alot easier to learn than DoW2.  Both are very fun games.

Great, thanks!  It sounds like a great game, so far Stardock has impressed me with Galactic Civ and Sins of a Solar Empire, so I am pretty sure this will be just as good.

Just so I'm clear though, there is a single player campaign where you CAN level your god from match to match, right?  And if so, can you choose which one you want to be to play as in the campaign?

their is skrimish though and the campaign I beleive is basicly just a tournament.

I don't think you really level up between games anymore - every time you start a match, you are level 1.  HOWEVER, "favor items" function similarly to leveling up.  As you play games, you win favor points that can be spent on persistant items.  Win a bunch of games and you will be able to buy massively better items than if you only play one game, and this will make your Demigod much much stronger.  In the campaign mode, you basically play a series of skirmish games with different teams and can spend your favor points to either buy items, get yourself closer to godhood, or force someone else farther from godhood.  Normal skirmishes also have favor points that are persistant and can be spent on favor items, though if you want a skirmish without them, that is doable as well.

Gnats, you are correct. Every single game starts you at level 1 with nothing, and you must level up each time from the bottom, which is why i said DoW2 was different >> those comparing it probably served to confuse him.

Thanks for the help, it's appreciated.  I went ahead and pre-ordered it, now the wait begins.  :)
