Where is the Debug.err?

So i got around to installing DA on this computer finally after a good year...i updated all the drivers but it still keeps on crashing. My Question is-- where is the Debug.err located?

I looked through every folder But i can't find it. i even ran a Search through my entire C drive and the only game related debug i found was for EaW. If it needs to crash in order for it to be created it has crashed plent yof times-- the first time i got a BSoD, after than i tended to notice fst enough that it was about to crash to End task.

Erh anyways, any help? i'd like to look at it, and its kind of odd because it wouldnt be the first time i looked at it-- not on this computer but.

Also i've been considering getting a macbook this summer-- Does DL/DA/TotA run on those?

Thanks in advance,

Nils

Not sure your OS but should be under /MyDocuments/My Games/GC2DarkAvatar or your OS's variation of such.

End of quote

There has been a few people running them in emulators on Macs, but I have no first hand experience on that.

I recall talk of this way back in the DL days and i believe there were issues running GC2 under a VM on a Mac. There were threads for it, but sifting through them to find the info would take a determined effort.

Ahha! Found it. :)

I'll just post it here opposed to making a new thread.

It won't even run on Mid or Lower Settings. =/ and i can't figure out why. i am fairly certain all my drivers are up to date and from the looks of it i have more than enough to run the game unless im missing something.=|

Edit: I just Ran DL...that crashes too. =(

You're running fullscreen at 1280x800 on a laptop that has a 1600x1200 monitor - try a matching windowed mode first, then lower anti-aliasing to zero, then progressively take a few performance options off such as planetary surface variety or enhanced ship rendering, etc.

Then go into Cheat-Mode and give us the exact starting FPS value by hitting CTRL-F.

You might also try to find out if there is a more recent driver for the internal Intel_965 graphics chipset.

no the monitor is definitely 1280x800...

Anti Aliasing should be set to zero, at least it says so when i view the options menu.

I checked if i could update the driver from the intel site for some reason it says its not the right version so then i run their "chispet detector" which says "Customized computer manufacturer driver detected. Please contact the computer manufacturer for possible updates".So then i headed to the drivers and downloads website for Dell but they don't offer the downloads anymore. I also have driver detective installed which claims i have the most up-to-date drivers.(ironically some of the drivers they offer won't install because they sitll are listed as outdated... but thts USB crap.)

as for the framerate it shoots up to 83 for a second when i first my mouse but after than drops down and stays between 0 and about 60(sometimes seems tog o up to 63 or so).

Appreciate the help.

Kay, what that tells me is that the GDI system is perfectly normal... and the whole other issues with options off or not won't probably help you out either.

The tricky "portable" graphics array has a reputation for being somehow unstable at times even when newest drivers are in use - nothing to do with Dell or otherwise but internal chipsets are harder to handle by very high-end games (read memory hungry please here) such as GC2.

The only other situation that could be the cause is the "CloneFrames Failed" warnings which suggest that the UI lags when certain onscreen activities happen; why i was saying to test Windowed mode, btw.

Anything running in the "background"? Or extensive multi-tasking while you play? Cuz, it helps to reduce VM access to prioritize current programs instead of other stuff - specially on "some" portables.

Not according to this...

Monitor Name: Plug and Play Monitor

Monitor Max Resolution: 1600,1200

Thats Strange I've never been able to set it higher than 1280x800.

Hmm Well. i never experience lag, and i have most "run on start up" programs disabled, and generally when i play a game its all o focus on so no multi tasking.

and i mean i can't set it below 1024x786 or whatever, and even at that resolution part of it gets cut off in windowed mode.

Seems like its just an unstable graphics card...piece of junk...

I really hope I will be able to emulate this game onto a Macbook pro if i get it. Kind of sick of getting computers which crash consistently while playing this game. =|

End of Schattey's quote

Calling 965 express a graphics card is like calling VIA a CPU maker.

Oh, wait...

You get the point.

You've turned off AA (I see that now, I missed it) and (for DA and TA) enhanced ship rendering, mixed vertex processing mode, and (for TA) animated components, right?

Granted, I'm not certain that's causing the crash, but that VPU can't handle any of it.

You might also consider as a last resort disabling hardware transform and lighting.

But if DL's crashing, too, there's something strange going on.

Haha yeah noted. the irritating thing is Games that are supposed to be more graphics intesnive run with less BsoD.(my brother has the exact same computer and he can play Sims2 with all expansions and Wow with very dew CtD's)

hmmm...i'll try that-- well different combinations there of.

I'll try tturning off Mixed Vertex Processing, ship rendering, bumpmapping.

I'll try cutting down the planet surface variety in half and disable darkside city lights.

hmm..maybe turn on hardware mouse too.

what does AA stand for though?

A_nti A_liasing... some techno precisions; it is a process that blurrs the whole display to prevent sharp character edges and "rapid re-scaling" artifacts. At the cost of HUGE runtime memory and continual redraws of everything on a UI that DO slow down (already slowed up by design GPUs!) to a point where the game could behave such as what you are experiencing.

Yeah its set to zero-- in fact i can't edit it. if i try and press up or down it still says zero sooo...

But anyways imma go give it a shot now with those settings off.

Edit: Nope doesn't work. DA Crashes after about 15 min eitherway. i tried windowed mode too same thing. bummer =/
