i'm really thinking that this is a waste of time

This impulse program will not update. First off, you are forced to auto update, then i can't update games that i paid to update because the only program i can't update them from doesnt work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I'm speaking of Sins Entrenchment, and Impulse. I am so super pissed. Can someone help me please?  I've uninstalled impuse, re-loaded it, and still it wont get past the stinking "dowwnloading impulse update screen". Ive disabled my firewall, i've put it on the exeptions list. I'm getting tired. i like the game but maybe not this much.

I have this problem too. But I solve it.

When I have this problem, I have Full version of Impulse. And Im too wait for 2 days for Impulse updating and dont see nothing in Impulse window. Than I uninstall Impulse Full, and download short version Impulse web download.

When I run it Impulse update trough internet, download 10mb, and that i get list of all avaible applications.

So, I think You have problem coze You are using Impulse full version, try short.

I also would like to put forth my point of view, and no offense at all to SD, I love you!:inlove:   but I don't believe in having to download a Software, that leads you to... --> Other Software.. it's ridiculous. X|

I've had this problem as well. I've uninstalled impulse and installed it again, perhaps a different version, and then it finally installs the impulse update. Previously it would just get stuck, not actually downloading any update at all and thus becoming useless since it wouldn't get past that. It only started happening with the new version (impulse 2.0 or whatever).

As a precaution I UNchecked use beta version of impulse.

I'm just curious, as to why it is there at all?o_O

Software [Individual], should be a stand-alone application, IMO.. don't hate me for my opinion folks. :)

Yep seems to be an update bug in the current Beta.

Go into preferences,Stardock Orb upper left, Impulse updating options, select prompt for updates.

My #1 reason for using it is updating,TG. Just with ODNT alone I would have 15 "Stand Alone" apps to manually update. When it works, and so far it has been working well for me,it is a great convenience.

When it doesn't,as with many things in life,it can be a pain in the a$$.

Now this will get the 'fur flying' as they say, but I don't have any problem running Impulse, it works for me.  I agree with Wizard, it would be a nightmare updating the programs in ObjectDesktop.

Having said that, I don't play games and do not care to have a tool for downloading customizing software that is game oriented.  Ooops, sorry SD.   I understand the concept of Impulse, and it really wouldn't make sense to have to support two downloading tools, doesn't mean I have to like it.

Now to the problems folks are having, computers being computers, some work, some don't,  It does seem though that most things get traced back to simple things, setting or whatever.  Unfornatetly the simple things are the hardest to find and correct.

When all else fails email support@stardock.com:sun:

I had this same problem. For me, the answer was temporarily disabling my anti-virus. I need to do this each time I run Impulse, or else it sits there...and sits there...

I don't have time to manually search for and install updates for 10 or 15 programs. Impulse is the installer, the updater, etc. Why people get so tripped up over it is beyond me.

It's just a simple program that helps track your SD stuff! Sheesh! Life without it would be so much more difficult. (Thanks SD!)

No doubt Impulse is great for 10-15 products.

You offer discounts too through it.. and thats the greatest part.

However, what about them who have only one or two products. Aren't they your consumers? Won't you listen their feedback?

Its better to have many consumers using one or two products than having few consumers using all products.

In my opinion, all updates, games and softwares should be available not only within impulse but also as as stand-alones too.

In this way, every consumer can be made feel great.

But that would also mean more developer time making stand-alone installers/updaters, which would cost more money that would eventually be passed along to the customer with higher prices which won't make me feel so great.

Well, that is out of my understanding as I am a management student so I don't know exactly how much time would it take to pack all those updates in one pack.

But I guess it shouldn't take more than 10-15 mins maximum to pack all those files in a standalone .exe and that little time is not enough to hire a new developer.

And I don't think for taking that small extra time they should be overpriced.

I must be one of the lucky ones.

Never a single problem with impulse (updating impulse itself or updating my Stadock apps) and I've been using it since the very first beta release.

Impulse always works fine for me, for all my customization programs and games.

The best solution it start a ticket with support detailing your problem.

I have to disable Windows Defender each time I update.........haven't figured out how to get it on the Defender's "Allowwed" list

Impulse works fine for me also. For folks with one or two apps?

Look at it this way: You're running a business and you want to make things easy on your customers....so you build a platform that is multi purpose and updates also. Who gets "more" help? No one really. Is disk space a problem? Nowadays not really. Besides, you should have external storage in case of problems. So, migrate less used data/programs to the external drive.

I think Impulse is fine...does my SD stuff quickly and efficiently, if there's an error or problem, it has a log tech support can look at...

All in all, I'm satisfied with Impulse. Fuzzy is absolutely right, incidently: If you have a problem, open a ticket...it also helps with software development if quality data can be collected and analyzed.
