Get AIs to make peace

First of all, since this is my first post, hello everyone! :D

And now here's my story. I'm playing TA on an immense map, tough difficulty. I started aiming for a diplomatic, or maybe influence victory, managed to get to nice relations with all races(except for the Drengin, but after declaring war they didn't last much...they aren't a factor anymore) and allied with Krynns and Arceans. Then, an assassination event came up, Torians declared war on Krynns, and I decided to keep the alliance and declare war on the Torians myself. And that was when all hell broke loose.

Torians were allied to Iconians, Altarians, and Drath, so I suddenly found myself at the center of a galaxy wide war. The problem is that I had treaties with both Torians and Drath that were broken with war, so now I have a nice "-- We don't trust you" entry in the relations summary, and this seems to cripple my attempts at peace. Somehow they seem to think that I want to make peace only to build up and attack them again, even if I never did something like it.

After a while, Torians made peace, due to the fact that they were losing badly, but then declared war again after 2 weeks to "help their allies". Drath and Iconians absolutely don't want to hear about a truce, even if I keep destroying the hordes of ships they send against me(but I haven't touched any of their planets yet). I'd prefer not to go and annihilate them all, since that is a *lot* of planets to get and I don't really like conquest anyway...is there any way to "convince" them to accept peace without having to reduce them to their homeworlds only?

PS: I'm playing a Terran-derived custom race, on Neutral Alignment...and the Yor and Korx are in game, but so weak they barely deserve the mention.

I've wondered this same thing... I wonder if this is something a patch is needed for.

Invade a planet or three and blow up ~1/2 of their military while you militarily outrank them ten to one, and that ought to be enough.

Maybe.

That aspect could use some work, though.

I think this si quite normal

I mean YOU are the leader, and as such you should know that engaging in war with a race will provoke all those allied with that race

and of course they don't like it

that's exactly what happened with Real World Wars, with alliances and such everyone got into war by one way or another

and even if one is more powerful, at some point some people or countries prefer to resist or be killed ...

of course that's debatable, but it ain't that unrealistic...

true, but here the problem is that we have two completely different actions that are treated the same: attacking someone you have an economic/research treaty with, and attacking someone you just made peace with. In real wars, tbh, I would hate someone that backstabs me just after peace a lot more that someone that attacked me only to honor an alliance, even if we were trading.

And the thing that bugs me most...the "We don't trust you" malus is applied even to the Krynns...wtf? I just got in a big mess only to help you and honor my alliance with you, and you don't trust me?! Doesn't make much sense to me... -_-

I think the reasoning is "If he could do that to them, what's stopping him from doing it to me?"

More importantly, if you already have an alliance with the Krynn, the malus doesn't matter much. The AI won't break a treaty (short of the assassination event), so once you're allied the various + and - factors are irrelevant (for that race only, of course).

Still, it's irritating to see.

As an aside, Iconians are officially dumber than a rock: down to 4 planets without a spaceport, with 0 Military VS my 400 odd, and still don't want to hear about peace -_-
