Latest renewal offer (Object Desktop/Object Desktop Ultimate)

Just a minor niggle with the current 'Renew your subscription' offer that was waiting in my Inbox this morning.

It states:-

With this special offer, when you renew from either Object Desktop or Object Desktop Ultimate, you will be automatically upgraded to Object Desktop Ultimate and have an additional 12 months added to your subscription.

According to this, if i renew my Object Desktop Ultimate subscription today, I'll get... wait for it .... a free upgrade to the version I'm already renewing, AND ... I can't beleive this ... actually 12 months added to my subscription (which is what an annual renewal IS, last time I checked).

Obviously, all those with only the standard subscription get a nice upgrade - and admittedly I'll be renewing anyway (helps Stardock, and having a subscription running far into the distant future isn't a problem) - but the wording seems to be saying that a current Ultimate subscriber will be getting an wonderful benefit by renewing now.... by getting exactly what they'd be getting if they just renewed any other time.

*grins*

Yours,

Ann-Marie

Usually, renewal is $34.95.  With this mailer it is $20.  Still a deal.

YOu don't have to . . but if you did use the offer you would get another year at a better price.  :)

My subscription for OD Standard expires in July 09.

If I use the renewal offer I would get an upgrade to ultimate and my expiration date would be July 2010. Is this correct?

I think this is a good deal for both: Stardock get $$ up front right now, and we get a longer extension of fun SW.

My question that I have, that I can't get SD to answer is:

If I renew my ObjectDesktop Ultimate (have had it renewing for years, but this will extend it to the end of 2010), but I ADD the ObjectDockPlus (presently at v1.9) for $10, for a GRAND total cost of $30 (I already bought OD+1.9 last year), WILL I GET AN AUTOMATIC UPGRADE TO OD+ v2.0 WHEN IT COMES OUT?

I have no problem upgrading/extending etc etc with StarDock, since they always put out good shiz. But will the OD+ addition (of the present offer) give me an auto upgrade to OD+ v2.0 when it comes out? If not, then the OD+ offer is just for those presetnly without it.  BUt what about us who have already bought it?

All I hear is that it will come out 'soon', but can never really find any info from SD themselves about any speculative release date. Does 'soon' really mean, about the same time that Win 7 is RTM'd or Retailed?

I just heard answer back from Ken Janeczko in support as per the following:

"Typically we allow free upgrades for anyone that purchased recent to when the new product launches. At this point I do not have a definite answer if that will be the case with ObjectDock 2.0 but if a charge is assessed to upgrade you would get it for a discounted price. More information on this will be available closer to when ObjectDock 2.0 launches in the coming months."

So it may not be a good thing to do the dual (renewal and OD+) purchase, since there is no projected OD+ v2 release date, you will have to pay upgrade price regardless of what you do. And you may get a discounted ugrade price, but it'll most l;ikely be $10 OFF, which you will pay for right now, for a product you MIGHT get later this year, or not.

Looks like a good thing for the ObjectDesktop Ultimate subscription renewal, and good for those who want OD+ and don't already have it.  But not good for the consumer in 'want' for an OD+ upgrade.

For what it's worth, I think that OD+ at it's current version is a good app and worth the money.  It is better for 32bit systems because of systray issues. but if you look at the product page . .OD+ is only certified for 32bit. (https://www.stardock.com/products/objectdock/learn.asp)

zeldalink: yes, you add a year to the end of your subscription when you renew.

The Figurehead: For right now, I would hold off on buying a duplicate license for OD+ hoping to get upgraded.  We have not yet worked out what the upgrade pricing will be for ObjectDock 2.0, and you may be buying an additional license that you don't need to.

At the end of the day, I certainly wasn't knocking it (as I said, I'd be taking the offer anyway - Stardock gets an inrush of money, and my already long subscription with them extends even further :D). Its was just the wording that caught my eye.

Anyway, I already have OD+ (have had for ages), so unless we hear something about OD+ 2.0 before the offer expires, I won't need to take them up on getting OD+ again :D, so I'll just be adding an extra 12 months to the subscription.

By the way, do we know if there are any more 'free to Object Desktop Ultimate Subscribers' MyColors suites? Since I'm still having the problems with the MyColors website, I still can't scroll through the groups to see if there's anything new that I might like to buy.

Also, in a similar vein, is there any news on getting Natural Desktop working on Vista? Pretty please?

It's a shame to hear about the uncertainty of the ObjectDock+ renewal.  I'd jump at the whole $30 package right now, except I run Vista 64 (and Win7 64 when they get it out).  At the moment OD+ has some feature limitations with 64bit that drive me nuts, especially considering the emphasis Brad has been placing on 64 bit in his posts for the last several months.  Sadly, I purchased OD+ and never ended up using it.

I've taken a wait-and-see approach to the new releases of Object Desktop and ObjectDock, unfortunately the OD+ thing burned up some of the goodwill I had for Stardock (only a little bit though. ;))

SHIRLEY, I'm (of course) gonna wait for the OD+ issue to smooth itself out, likely later this year.

I think the year extension to ODUltimate, for $20, is a deal, and should be purchased by all who enjoy ODUltimate.

GREYSPIRE, I am running OD+ on Vista x64 without any hitches. YOU HAVE TO get impulse to SHOW BETAS or use the old StarDockCentral to install the latest OD+ beta. IF YOU DO install the beta, and reboot, all OD+ features will be working just fine with Vista x64. We have a long thread about this (the method of getting the beta installed) going under "OD+" in the forums. I think OD+ has crashed a few times in the past year (early 2008), but I think it was mostly due to some other software/conflict(s), since it (OD+ beta) has been running very stable (under Vista x64) for the past 3 months or so.

I will, later this week, play with Win 7 x64 and my ODUltimate Account & OD+ v1.9 beta to see how it runs or not.

I have said it before, but I would love to be able to make OD+ show "ALL OPEN WINDOWS" & the "SYSTEM TRAY" & have "LIVE" previews of all windows (minimized or not). This way I can get rid of the Win Taskbar and use OD+ exclusively. All Just Hopes and Dreams for OD+2.

I don't find ObjectBar as useful as OD+, since it does not appear to support a lot of the Vista features. Maybe I'm wrong and can't use OB as efficient as OD+. I just wish I could customize OD+ a bit more.

I run OD+ at work as my taskbar and it works wonderfully.  It’s an XP machine so I don't get the live screenshots, but i have all windows on a main dock in the middle and the systray in a tabed dock on the side.  I also keep a clock beside my systray tab, with a few tabs at the top that have all my most used apps (remote desktop, VMware console, etc....). I really like that I can make a system tray tabbed dock that goes away when I don't want it.
