OK. Call me anal but all the gradient silhouettes are driving me nuts. So I decided to make a full set avatar from the Elemental resources we currently have. Please note that Luckmann has added many more avatars to the collection.You can get them below.

I have tried to include suggested pages to find more avatars by the various avatars if you want to look further. You can also use the "view edits" button if you're very very brave to view all previous versions of this main thread and the images where-in.

This OP is under construction. Due to some browsing issues it is being completely reformatted and built from scratch. There are other user avatars and lots of additional avatars that are supposed to be here in the OP. Jalicos (page: 15) and eplekogen (page: 5) come to mind right away. They should have avatars in this OP soon. Of course wintersong has tons of avatars scattered throughout the web. its a work in progress tracking them down and sorting into 'official art' and 'unofficial art' especially since some of the old 'official' art did not match the current style as well as others.
We are busy people though, and editing this takes more time than one might think.

I'd like to make some avatars for this, got a lot of experience with photoshop. I'll post them here as soon as I have time to do something, and Spartan can decide if he want's to put them in the main post
Cool. The more the merrier! That is the point of the thread after all. The real questions is if SD will put them in the download section on the official site.
Anyone making banners yet? I don't "need" an avatar, but I wouldn't mind throwing a banner on some forum accounts I have.
I made one, not really good, but not too ugly also And cervomix did one also.
There is a thread for it and only two people have submitted something so far. I will make some after I see what assets Frogboy or his proxy is planning on sending me. I do not claim to be an artist however. In fact I claim zero artistic skill - please keep that in mind.

I see the image swap on My Account pages, but when I tried a couple of posts, I still see the Gangster Psilon I've been using since I started posting regularly at GC2.
Am I doing anything wrong other than being impatient?

You are showing fine by me with your hand avatar. You do need to refresh your cache however.

So just reload, or clean your cache if that doesn't help.
Why do we need to empty our cache each time? It's really confusing. Allother boards I know don't need that. If you change your avatar then you immediatly see the new one ....
There's probably a variety of combinations and contributing factors. It's a rather common "problem", when it comes to avatars. It's possible (probable) that when you upload an avatar, it saves under a distinct name, filed under (for example) "vieuxchat"; when the browser then loads up the page, it doesn't differentiate between the old picture and the new one (since both have the same name (and place, to boot).
Manually reloading should fix it with most browsers, but others may have to empty their cache (or just wait until that image "falls out" and reloads). I'm just brainstorming here, by the way. I have no idea how they use avatars on this forum.

The one in the knight photo was created by Hillary (art site: hibbary.deviantart.com) who is a really awesome artist and anybody looking for a talanted artist should offer money so she can make art for you.
*** EDIT: I'm adding two more. I believe it was Luckmann who said "bears live in caves" and he was certainly correct. So many times in MoM did I run into those monster caves full of war bears. As such, I'm adding it to the community avatar stockpile. This is a monster lair with war bear inside from the game that EWoM is the spiritual sequal
