Help with Ship Queue

I played GCI extensively and just started GCII, had a quick questions for all the pros out there.  Is there any way to set up a queue order for ships like you can do for planetary improvements?  It is endlessly annoying to have to constantly zoom back to the planet's queue and select the next type of ship you want built.  I know you can right click the icons on the right and autolaunch ships btw.

Just seems like you are spending the majority of your time in the ship queue window selecting the next ship.

Are you changing ship styles then each time?  I know a planet will continue to make the same ship until it's orbit is full (a checkbox in the options, defaults on I beleive)

yes i'm changing ship styles.  i should clarify my question:

If I want to build a transporter, attackvesselA, attackvesselB, constructor, attackvesselC

is there any way to 'queue' up this order so that I don't constantly have to zoom into the planet and select the next ship I want built?

I've had to stop playing because of that, once you get 30+ colonies it gets extremely tiring to constantly be zooming into planets to select the next type of ship you want to build.

You can use the Colonies tab in the Civilization Manager to easily change what is next to build, but you can't queue different ships in a particular order.

It has been that way since DL, and I don't think it has changed.

/sigh this needs to be changed

Have you tried the governors?

I believe that's what Moosetek13 is referring to.

It's not what you're looking for, but it might help.

I was hoping the new Planetary Governors stuff would include queues for both improvements and ships, but I haven't seen any sign of what the "Military" tab looks like in 2.0.

One other workaround is to use a rally point and a group of worlds each producing one of the ship types in the set. You can set a colony rally point by clicking the little button beside the planet picture or pressing T when you have the planet selected on the main map. Also not ideal, but maybe preferable to the Governors if you're dealing with many production worlds.

The same production-choice dialog is also accessible in the full Colonies list through the Starport column. But you can't see where a world is from there the way you can when you select it in the mini-list.

Yeah, I too would like a ship building queue.  Rally points as suggested above are only a partial solution.

1.  Rally points are only effective for building a fleet or group of ships that are being built by different planets...and you don't care how far apart they are.

2.  But Rally Points are not effective if the ships must come from widely dispersed planet starports, especially if it's still early in the game and I haven't discovered warp drive or extensive miniaturisation (sp) yet.

3.  Sometimes, I have one corner of the galaxy producing ships that will only be used in that same corner, due to the expected travel time, or in other scenarios, I have a lower density of habitable (or lower class) planets, which make rally points even less effective.

So it would be nice to pre-plan what ships each planet should build, and how many.  I would also like (for each planet) an independent "continue to build last ship" option, or a "prompt when queue empty" option.

Sometimes, it's okay to just keep building constructors or colony ships indefinitely.

Other times, however, I would prefer to program a "stop" command and get notified when the end of the queue has been reached for a given shipyard/starport, so that I can be physically reminded to review that planet or section of the galaxy and establish a new queue.
