Can you fire Nukes across solar systems?

Can TEC Nuke Cannon superweapon be fired across Star systems?

I have developed 3 Cannons in a single Solar System but my enemies lie across the galaxy in another Star System.

When i try and fire the cannon it says "has to be explored", so i explore the planet and then fire and the Cannon turns and shoots but when i try and track the shot i cant because it disappears after a short while.

Does this mean i have to keep a fleet on the target planet for the shot to hit it? or can i fire and forget (sure in the knowledge that it will hit) ? ;) :maybe:

Yes you can.

It just takes an incredibly long time for the projectiles to reach their destination ( anywhere from 10-15 mins on some of the maps I've played on).

Hope this helps

Just be careful, I've read stories of people firing them, forgetting about the warhead, and then their fleet gets there and the colonize it... and KALBEU-AY!!!!! So yeah just be careful x_x

LOL THAT WOULD BE HILARIOUS! *Fires 2 nukes at a planet, 6 minutes later takes planet and colonizes it, upgrading the planetary development* "Alright forward base established, the computer must have recolonized and redeveloped really quick. *Both of players own nukes slam into the planet killing the entire pop and destroying planet* "F@&%!"

It can take a lot longer than 10-15 mins.  I have had games where it took more like 30-45.  If you make some customized map where everything is really far apart (map size slider), don't even bother using it.  It might take many hours.

I had one game where I was bored and my allies didn't want me to attack the other guy holed up in his system until they were ready.  I made about 15 Novaliths on all my worlds and set them to firing on auto repeat.  It was kind of funny, because my allies spent about 30 minutes building up their fleets, we attacked, and as we were destroying the defenses, the Novalith strikes started arriving and wiping out the worlds so we didn't have to bomb them.

Another notch in the belt of the advent superweapon.  You fire it, at SOME POINT, you will get benefit.  You will never get hosed by it, and at worst, you cost them some loyalty and thus some income.
