Uninstall destroyed my icons

Help someone please. I just uninstalled Object Desktop from my Vista laptop and now I find that icons have disappeared all over the place (not all icons but many). Some I have been able to restore simply by using change icon in the properties but some just refuse to change and of course there are many that do not offer up that option because they are not documents but actual executables. An example is MS Word 2007 the program itself has lost its icon and so have all of the .doc extension documents but .docx extension files still have the correct icon! I've tried a repair of MS Office to no avail.

Any help from anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Hi, I had a similar experience, But my Icons went "good-bye" during the installation. Like you, I was able to recover most of my Icons except the MS office icons. There is one person from Stardock (that I am aware of) that is looking into this problem "Bagginz" is his ID on this forum. I would also open up a problem ticket with Startdock. I wish you "good luck"

I don't know if this will work but, when similar problems of this type have been reported in the past it is because Object Desktop programs where not used to reset default Windows Icons and Task Bar Themes prior to de-installation. If you have the capacity to re-install IconPackager 4 and then use it to reset your icons to Windows default icons then de-install IconPackager 4 that may solve your missing icons problems.

Thanks for that suggestion BigDogBigFeet it sounds very sensible and I had considered re-installing but the problem is that I never actually changed the icons so it didn't seem logical to me that it could have taken control of them in this way. I'll let you know after the reinstall how it went.

Thanks again.

You might also try opening any office program and on the tool bar select help and from the drop down menu select "detect and repair" which will repair all office components and restore the icons. However, I think if you do this you may have to reinstall any updates to office. Drastic, I know, but it will fix your icons.
