Is it possible to change the base starbase model?

I'd like to create my own starbase models using the Ship editor, is it possible to replace the original model?

I can't seem to find any guides or tutorials on this in the forums

Yep, it's just a matter of making the ships, then copying the .shipcfg files over the ones used for the starbases.

Unfortunately you can't make racespecific Sbs.
If you change the model, you change it for all races.
But it works, yes.

Yes and No :P

SBs are just special types of ships with no movementpoints.
Hence, the hull is defined in GC2Types.xml, this is where a pointer to the *.x file resides.
The SB as a SB(Ship) is defined in GC2Ships.xml, where a pointer to the *.shipconfig resides.

Since DA, the starbase parts were added as jewelry and the starbases themselves are made from shipcfgs the same way as ships.

Thats not really true it you just have to rename them for what ever ship style your using Its not easy though the trick is finding what starbases goes with each race.

I meant the shipcfg not the x file model.
If you rename the S0_ prefix to eg S6_ the SB won't show up, and the default SB is created. At least with current TA version.
There must be a limitation on SBs in relation to the shipcfg and its prefix. Only S0_ will be accepted :(

Well that makes sense because I still play and mod on the DL version. Though I replaced my starbases' models with new .x format Starbases, does that mean they won't work in TA and DA? I'll have to make a Starbase from the game's components?

it's also possible to mod SBs base hull to be huge (rather than the default large), thus granting it some more much-needed HP.

Yes that works, just design it in shipyard.
I completely made individual SB Types for my AsaRaceMod and was quite disappointed to notice they'll apply to all races.
The game won't read any SB.shipcfg other than S0_ :(
