Problems of BootSkin importing .bootskin files
Import successful, but new bootskin not listed !
from
Stardock Forums
Dear all.
Couple of days ago I downloaded the bootskin utility for a trial. I read all the online tutorials on how to create a bootskin file --- please forgive me if I have misunderstood something --- and after creating a .bootskin file, and using the BootSkin utility to import it, I can't find the new bootskin that I've created !
Back to the beginning ....
I got a picture of waterfall, make it into a 640 X 480 resolution BMP file, with 256 colors.
I name the BMP file "Start.bmp"
Then I created my bootskin.ini:
[BootSkin]
Type=0
Name = "WaterFall"
Author = "Noname from Nowhere"
Description = "A bootskin to go with the Waterfall skin"
Screen=Start.bmp
After that, I put both the Start.bmp file and the bootskin.ini inside a directory named "WaterFall"
= = = =================================
Directory of E:\\WaterFall
08/14/2008 06:22 PM <DIR> .
08/14/2008 06:22 PM <DIR> ..
08/14/2008 06:19 AM 141 bootskin.ini
08/14/2008 06:11 AM 308,278 Start.BMP
= = = =================================
Then I use the zip program to zip the entire "WaterFall" directory. I rename the WaterFall.zip to WaterFall.bootskin.
08/14/2008 06:28 PM 315,541 WaterFall.bootskin
= = = =================================
Then I use the BootSkin utility to "import" the "WaterFall.bootskin" file.
File --> Import from file... ---> Click on the .bootskin file,
then a little window appears with the message
"Bootskin imported successfully"
= = = =================================
So far so fine, right?
NOT !!!
You see, the newly imported skin does **NOT** show up anywhere in the list, nor can I preview it, or apply it !!!
Then I checked deeper ... and found out that under the "C:\Program Files\Stardock\WinCustomize\BootSkin\skins" directory, however, there's a new "WaterFall" subdirectory created, completed with the bootskin.ini and the bmp file:
= = = =================================
Directory of C:\Program Files\Stardock\WinCustomize\BootSkin\skins\WaterFall
08/14/2008 08:32 PM <DIR> .
08/14/2008 08:32 PM <DIR> ..
08/14/2008 08:29 AM 141 bootskin.ini
08/14/2008 07:41 AM 308,278 Start.BMP
= = = =================================
Seems like the BootSkin utility _DID_ import my WaterFall.bootskin file ! But somehow it refuses to list the new skin that I've created anywhere !
= = = =================================
As I said, I have just tried out the BootSkin utility, since I am a newbie, I might have done something wrong. If that's the case, please forgive my ignorance.
That said, the version of the BootSkin utility that I downloaded from stardock has the following info:
Stardock BootSkin version 1.05a
@ 2003 - 2004 Stardock.net Inc.
Please tell me what I've done wrong, and please help me make the new bootskin that I've made comes alive on my PC.
Please help !!
Thank you !!
