Missing cdkey - boxed retail version. Help !

Hi I just purchased sins of a solar empire from a ebgames store in Sydney Australia.

The box was missing the cdkey.  Ive looked everywhere. (manual, box etc).

Ive contacted stardock support
[#CXA-359921] but they said to go back to the store i brought it from
and swap for another copy of the game and if that didnt work they couldnt do anything.  Support said the game is "playable out of the box"

But what about the updates ???  I want to download version 1.1 and the option to play muliplayer etc.

As support suggusted, I went to the Ebgames store and they could not help me.  store said they had no more copies.

Im pretty upset that my game copy that i payed good money for  is unable to download updates or play mulitplayer.    And im very disappointed in stardock support.  How hard is it to generate a new cdkey ??   I even provided them with a photo of my retail box with the receipt from ebgames to prove i owned the copy.

Could any devs or forum support people from stardock/ironclad help me ?   My support case number is
[#CXA-359921].  (Although support closed the case, after their first cant help you reply !    Which wasnt very nice. )

Please help.

I'm afraid it looks like you have your answer already. Your only recourse is to insist on a "complete" copy from EB Games or demand a refund?

Game stores have been known to remove CD-keys etc. from games (some even going so far as to reseal the copies after the fact). I don't buy from EB games anymore (had one too many bad experiences there myself).

but shouldnt stardock be able to provide me with a new cdkey ? I even took a
photo of my receipt with the retail box, manual and cd all showing and included it in my email to them.

It seems extremely unreasonable that they wont help me. I was polite and everything

Well, that's kinda hard to ask of them. First, it isn't Stardock that published the boxed retail version that you bought from EB Games. All that was handled by a third-party publisher and distributor. Stardock could only coordinate with the distributor, but they can't intervene.

Problem is, Stardock knows they provided a CD-key with each copy they've licensed to the folks distributing the boxed versions, so they don't have any fault. The actual fault - well, it probably happened somewhere between the publisher and EB Games.

Where I live, we only have one game retail chain (not surprising, since piracy is large here). Luckily, the retail support do everything in their power to assure each game purchased can be played out of the box.

They assure "100% Genuine" games and so they try to live up to that. I had a similar problem like yours, and they worked closely with me and Valve to get a Collectors Edition CD-key recovered.

So keep nailing their support, and if you can, even print out the email that Stardock support sent you. Anything mildly official could tip the balance in your favor.
