The final days of Milksama

The final days of Milksama

For those that have been around for a long time and/or have used Stardock Support even once you have likely heard of Mike aka Milksama.

On this day July 28th in the year 2008 Milksama ascends from support into the realm of Developer.

You may or may not have heard that Milksama has been coding on the side for some time with Stardock. Having been with the company near three years now he has paid his dues and is being raised from the proverbial "front lines".

We shall miss Mike in the trenches (though we will often pimp him for his knowledge I am certain) but we wish the very best to him and wish to congratulate him very publicly. Please join with me and make the guilt.... I mean praise, thick... er strong, yeah strong.

Congratulations Mike!    :CONGRAT:

Mike rulez.

Some people may not know, but that is actually photo-realistic. Mike is actually a carton of milk.
Technically he doesn't have to be all that nice... or do anything at all.

From what the forums reflect of Mike, I doubt he'll go all 'technical' on ya. ;)

Where's the donuts?  He's already failing on the job! ;)

Congrats Mike! Enjoy the new position.

Congrats Mike! I hope whomever you gave my support ticket to is as patient as you!
End of quote

Definitely. I will really miss working with the other support personnel. So far, these are the greatest people I've worked with!

Congratulations Milksama!! Hope they gave you a terrific raise with that transfer upstairs!!! you're worth it!

Thanks! And great idea, come to think of it! Let me just start a petition, here... ;)

When I read the title I thought it meant you were leaving the company and my reaction was "Nooooooo!!"

I imagine there's a pretty big hand-on knowledge base floating around in that head of yours. If you can get it poured into the programming, it can only be a good thing!

Congratulations, and Give 'er Heck!
End of quote

Oh, I had to look twice myself!
There are several years worth of information up there. I may not have an opportunity to get any of that into writing, but I'm hoping some of the tools I'm working on may help (if they're finished, that is ;)).

May be this is strange but I'm happy and sad simultaneously...

Why I'm sad? Because Stardock Support will lose this GREAT MAN!

And I'm really happy that Mike will make more interesting and important work. Take my Heartly Congratulations Mike! You are one of the best here! No doubt!
End of quote

I find it difficult to respond to your post, Vad_M... you have really gotten to me here :) All I can say is that I hope to be as helpful as a developer, as I have been as a technical advisor. Plus, I will still give to the community when I can, so we'll still see plenty of one another :CONGRAT:

congrats, mike!! good luck with your future projects.
End of quote

Thank you much! I've already dove into the secret project and am loving it :)

Congratulations Mike. I am gonna miss you for all of your patience and the tech support. I know you will do well in your new position.
End of quote

Much appreciated! I'm really glad I was able to help. I hope that in my new position I may still be as helpful (even if only indirectly helping through apps I write)

Mike I'm a newbie but congratulations
End of quote

Hey, welcome to the community! :) Thank you for the good wishes.

Congrats Mike, and welcome to the new super-secret project!
End of quote

Many thanks! You know that one part of that thing within the second section? I am really enjoying working on that now ;)

Hmmmm, Zoomba seems to be telling us something. Wonder what it could be.
End of quote

Well of course it's world dominat... I mean it's world peace!

Is it really a promotion?
Don't they keep the developers in the basement?

Congratulations Mike!
End of quote

Well, I did really enjoy the positioning of my last desk and didn't have to walk so much. I figure Stardock cares more about me and my health now though and wants to help keep me in shape walking stairs though ;)
Actually, I wouldn't mind moving into the basement. It's a big wide open area down there. It'll be especially great if we can get that proposal for playpen balls passed...

Congratulations Mike! Glad to hear you're getting a promo
End of quote

I'm very excited myself, thanks!!

I'll still be (at least partially) mentally there in support.

So.....

Nothing changes then...
End of quote

I knew I should've invested in one of those foil hats... you can't read my mind... that's unfair!!

I couldn't have said it better myself.. i agree 100% with Vad!
End of quote

Much appreciated! I could probably only be happier if I had all of you working alongside me, too! :)

Does that mean a pay raise! Now get to developing your butt off.
End of quote

Woo hoo! That's two signatures on the petition  I think even as a librarian in an ebook library, I would find something to keep myself busy ;)

Congrats, Mike. Now that you know all the hiccups from 3 years in support, go upstairs and fix this s--t! That would be now...pronto...andale, andale.
End of quote

 I think the best developers are the ones that had once worked in support. I guess it could be considered as a kind of Developer Appreciation 101

Congratulations Mike ... hope it pans out to be all you want it to be!

Cheers mate
End of quote

It's been so great so far, thanks Erk. I really enjoy writing code and am so glad I can finally do this full time.

Mike was always there to help me when i had any problems with windowblinds or any other apps, I will miss not being able to call you,
End of quote

I am glad I could have been there to help when needed. Though I'll do what I can from my new position to help all I can, the support staff is a group of really knowledgeable and friendly people. I will really miss working alongside them. Fortunately you can still benefit from their expert wisdom :)

Thanks for the hard work Mike, even when problems fixed Mike often followed up a few days later checking stuff stayed fixed.
I hope you get huge pay rise too for your new position.
End of quote

hehe, that is much appreciated. I have a heavy conscience and I think it's something the customers I help can benefit from. When there are lingering problems for example, I truly will lose sleep over it ;) Although there is still a lot I am still worrying about other than my new position and its priorities, I am taking time (when possible) to be sure those are all addressed and everyone is happy. I get a lot of satisfaction out of finding success in the wake of frustration and failure :CONGRAT:

Thank you everyone for your out pouring of good wishes to Mike. I think you really got to him on this one.
End of quote

You too, Seabass. The time you've put into this thread and the avatar you've made is really above and beyond... I can't thank you enough. This thing's awesome, thanks!

Congrats Mike! Thought I'll sure miss you on the support line.
End of quote

Ditto, but believe me, I don't want to see your existing tickets go away. I still love DesktopX and know some others share my sentiments. :CONGRAT: I think we'll still be seeing a lot of each other though (at least I hope!)

Mike rulez.
End of quote

Melissa and her Ketchup Chips rule+1!

Some people may not know, but that is actually photo-realistic. Mike is actually a carton of milk.
End of quote

 and Shirley was actually a stunt double for the princess in spaceballs! "Nobooody knows... the trouble I see...." hahaha

From what the forums reflect of Mike, I doubt he'll go all 'technical' on ya.
End of quote

I'm sorry, what? Oh, that'll be in the next version. Sorry, no knowledge on when that will be available. ;)

Where's the donuts? He's already failing on the job!
Congrats Mike! Enjoy the new position.
End of quote

Donuts? Well I did get donuts, but I ate them all on the long journey up the stairs. I thought I might instead provide a 24pack of coke. (No, actually I did not get that :P)

Mike - does this mean that you have to work with the evil warlock of the north? - andrew_
End of quote

Actually, he's still downstairs, but the effects of his mysterious power are difficult to escape. Your mom may have to work with the evil warlock of the north. ;)

I should also mention the article; Island_Dog, I really appreciate your posting that. Thank you! :CONGRAT:

The Wincustomize community is so friendly and inviting.
Thank you so much everyone. I can't imagine being happier anywhere else!

I admit it took a little while to get into the flow of things, but I think I am getting the hang of it now. How is this: "Thanks Jafo!" :CONGRAT:

I think you're just jealous, Jafo, everyone wants my cushy codemonkey position!
By the way, you may notice my previous posts are after 10pm ;P They don't have me working at home ......yet
