Trying to install Patch 1.05

So I just got the game a few days ago.  I installed it and opened up the game to see if it worked and it runs fine.  After that I closed out of the game and registered my cd key so I could download the update.  The patch was downloaded and when it gets to 99 percent installed an error pops up that says "You do not have access to make the required system configuration modifications. Please rerun this installation from an administrators account."

I only have one account on this computer and it is the admin account.  I built it myself and have never had a game say I was not logged onto an admin account ever.  Is this a problem anyone can solve?

That error I have only seen with current versions of Vista. I'm not sure what could have changed your status with XP except any security software that monitors installing software.

I would like to suggest one of the basic approaches to Impulse error messages from the FAQ first. If this and an uninstall/reinstall does nothing for you please let us know at support@stardock.com.

-Click the blue Help icon in the upper right.
-Choose 'Open XMLs folder (public)'
-When the folder pops up, delete any files/folders inside.
-Close this Window
-Click the blue Help icon in the upper right.
-Choose 'Open Impulse ProgramData folder'
-When the folder pops up, delete any files/folders inside.
-Close impulse and relaunch it. You may notice a long update time, which is normal as it is rebuilding the deleted info.

So I got home and started to read your response. I don't have this Impulse program your are talking about. I just bought the game and installed it off of the cd. When I clicked update it took me to the website and told me to download 1.05 patch and install it. I don't know what impulse is. Seeing as how I don't need it to play the game in its unpatched form I don't think I want to download extra software. Is it possible to even patch the game without impulse?

Only to 1.05. After that, all will only be available through Impulse.

Impulse can be found here. The download button in the corner pulls up a >2MB file for me.
