Extrodinarily Slow Gameplay?_?

Ok, i was just wondering if anyone else seems to be experienceing a problem of serious in game lag during minor conflicts.  My interface gets mega choppy i'm sure there's something that could explain this.  I recently downloaded all of the files and installed the game (no longer than a day ago) and i was really getting into it!  But i noticed the further i progressed in the game the more laggy it became, which was troubling because im running a GeForce IV, have more than a gig of DDR ram, and a 2.7GHZ Dual Pentium IV Processor.  Im playing the game on the lowest detail settings possible and still getting bad lag between commands.  Is my video card too weak for the game?  Or do I need to defrag my system after installing all of the data because the dling program fragments the data packets or something bizarre like that?

I guess that the video card might be a bit weak...

The minimum requirement says that for GeForce, you need at least FX6600 to play...

Guess that GeForce 4 being able to play at all is quite lucky already...

Also note that 1 gig of ram is not a lot anymore. we run so much crap now like anti-virus, web programs, or any other background services running consider turning some off. ChkDsk and defrag is never a bad idea and try to keep decent HDD free space (20% +). All have been problems for me on an older machine i had.

I am not saying you cannot run the game without buying new hardware, but i run everything on max settings and ive only lagged once during a modded - very very large battle. with all the math going on i would point my finger at the Ram before the video card because its really not THAT demanding from what ive seen, tho you can get a decent upgrade for less than 100 bucks... and i would if you can :) and your cpu is fine. Now if it was only massive battles doing it id say video card, but your saying game progress meaning more memory keeping track of all the progress.

figure out which you can do easier - new PCIe video vs goin up to 2 gigs ram. either would help in my opinion.

Good luck

Eh, at 4gigs of ram, I still get lag later in the game.
I actually suspect my processor (Core 2 3.0GHZ).

However, both your video card and your RAM are low. If you can upgrade, I'd suggest upgrading the video card. Nothing too fancy and expensive, but something a bit newer.

To be blunt, I'd just buy a new computer.

I'm pretty sure that the Geforce 4 series never supported PCI-E and so can't be upgraded to one.

Bah! I don't want to spend a ton of money buying upgrades for my machine just to play one game. This thing is only two years old it can't already be going extinct in terms of performance D=. Thats teh lame.

Well, the Geforce 4 series is six years old...

The Geforce 4 is below the minimum requirements of the game (and *really* below if it's a Geforce 4 MX), so that's a probable explanation.

Im running a NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX, with 4GB RAM DDR, Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.60GHz, I run at max video always, but when I played a Random Huge Multi map.

At first No lag, but an hour and a half into the game, (After i had about 20 planets and a few trade and refinery ports at every one) I had serious lag! I couldnt do anything about it. To me it seemed the lag occured every 1 second for a breif moment, (The same time i recieved my income which was at over 126 Credits / second). I donno if the credits was a problem, I sudgest this so any problems can be fixed in 1.1.

Your graphics card is letting down your processor. Infact its a waste of your processor to have a Geforce 4 paired up with it. Upgrade your graphics card to something like a 7800GS and you will have a decent system.

I rarely get lag while playing a huge map with mulitple solar systems. Mainly I only get lag when I'm in a very huge space battle. I have everything on the highest setting possible for everything. I run 2GB RAM, 2 GHz Dual Core AMD 3800+, ATI Radeon X1650 Pro Graphic card.
