Epic fights against the AI?

The one major problem i have had with this game is despite being outnumbered i find the AI will generally opt to run instead fighting.  Is there anyway difficulty settings or AI behaviours (like Aggressive which isn't really Aggressive) i should use for the game?

from what i have seen, the ai at different level still plays by the numbers. at easy the ai will just retreeat until its defending its homeworld. at hard the ai will retreat but instead of going home it will try to attack another planet a couple of jumps away. regardless, if the ai calcs your fleet size as stronger than its own, it will always run until it gets to the home world.

I was playing a Hard Aggressive AI yesterday, I brutally outnumbered them 4:1, and they fought to the last ship. I had three high level capital ships and about 40 various frigates and cruisers, they had four intermediate level capital ships and about ten various frigates. That battle was either a rather futile effort to destroy one of my capital ships or an attempt to defend their home planet(N.B. they had a few other planets).

So basically, they'll defend only their home planet if they are outnumbered.

I've noticed that too, the cpu keeps invading my planets while my fleet is at the other end of my empire, but when I land my fleet on there doorstep they turn tail and run. STAY AND FIGHT YOU COWARDS! *shakes fist angrily*

What I dont understand is that even though my fleet might outclass them at the moment, if the cpu doesnt defend some of its planets then soon they wont have the resource income to build a fleet to counter mine.

Yeah the AI needs to dare i say it STAND AND FIGHT. As most of the time you murder them when they try and flee.
