No economy for the Iconians??!?!

I've been trying to play as the Iconians but I don't see ANY economy options on their tech tree?!?!

That is brutal.

Am I missing something?

They seem incredibly gimped when considering their starting bonuses, no soldiering on the tech tree and NO ECON???

??

Interstellar Communication -> Interstellar Bartering

Should let you build some econ buildings. The third tech gives a unique project for +50% economy, the first 2 give some non-unique econ buildings.

This is all predicated on the assumption that my copy of the Galactopedia is working properly.

The thing about the Iconians is that all your planets tend to be pretty homogenous, they have a lot of powerful one per planet buildings, but other building horrible.

Sounds a lot like the Yor, with their Efficiency Center and Research Matrix on every planet because it's just impossible to justify *NOT* building one on every planet. And enough charging stalks to get up to 16-20 billion people on every planet too, because you just need the population to be able to keep your econ afloat.

Guess they come from the same planet as the Iconians, so it sort of makes sense that there'd be a few deep seated similarities in spite of their unpleasant history together, just as the Altarians and Drath have many similarities in their tech trees.

You know, the one time I played Yor my econ was fine. Sure, I had to max efficiency studies and get the government techs early, but I happen to prefer passive econ bonuses to buildings. Although I did get trade centers off someone somehow - I forget if I bought it or got it from conquest. It's worth going for imo - an extra 5% universal eco and a cheap spammable eco building to fill up your spare planet slots.

So what you're saying is that techs that do not exist in the Yor tech tree can fix the problem caused by the fact that those techs do not exist in the Yor tech tree? Shocking! I'd never have imagined!

Yes, the Yor economy is fine if they can get government techs and spammable econ buildings form somebody else - but at that point, it's not the Yor economy any more. In the meantime, the Yor survive by maintaining large populations of tax paying robots on all their worlds, because they are able to collect less from each robot due to the lack of economy techs and government techs. It works, if not well, at least well enough.

There are soldiering techs...only 3 of them however.

Merchant Trade Centers make up for it. They're equal to having Economic capitals on every planet. And you can always trade for one of the xeno trade buildings in the short term. And the MTC is tradeable, so I always try to get that tech as other races.
