Noobie Problem - I cant seem to take over an empty planet!

I started playing GalCiv 2 today, i sat and watched all the tutorials but im still having an issue trying to take over an empty planet.

I sent the colony ship to my home planet, then launched it with people on board, i can move it next to the planet i want to take over, but however hard i try i cannot get it to land on the planet. Ive gone back to the tutorial and followed its steps, left click the unit, right click the destination and when it arrives a message appears, but im getting nothing.

sorry for such a noobie question, hehe, thanks.

Are you sure you're using a colony ship and not a troop transport?

Erm... sorry for assuming that you're... well... very, very sluggish in the upper regions ;), but... is it a colonizable planet?

Are you sure it isnt a class 0 planet? Or maybe it's one of hte extreme environment planets, and you havent researched the appropriate tech yet.

The easiest way to tell if the planet is habitable is to left-click once on your desired planet. Look at the bottom area of your screen for info on the planet. Also, if you left-click on a sun, it will give you a summary of how many habitable planets orbit it.

Hope this helps.

thanks, i realised what id done straight after posting, i was indeed trying to claim a class 0 planet, are you ever able to use them?

ive had no game problems since, completed my first game with a win and score of 10k on the default settings, no idea how respectable that is.

few other things you might be able to answer for me, whenever i click on a unit, then tell it to do something, the screen then jolts to another unit rather than just staying still, is that normal and can it be turned off? its rather annoying, lol.

Is there a way when trading you can see the weeks value it would take you to research something your being offered, so you can compare? (example, im being offered 6 weeks equivilent research for me, but id be giving them 9 weeks worth of my research time, etc)

How do you actually get someone allied? ive researched the tech and have people give me stuff, applaud, etc.

custom ships, worth it or not?

thanks again

HAHA LOL!!1! N00 tries to COLONIZE CLASS 0!!!11! lulz omg

On a more serious note, I'm glad you fixed your problem ;)

1. Yes, it can be turned off somewhere in the options. It's set to go to your ships that need moving, and that's what it's doing.

2. No. You'd have to check in your tech tree. Remember, even if there were what you wonder, it would constantly change as your production of research points fluctuated.

3. For alliance, you BOTH must have the tech, AND must have CLOSE (the highest) relations with them.

No (unless an event increases the PQ).

That is an option you can turn off. Just clear the "Enable autofocus to move camera to next selected ship" check box. (It's in the middle group on the Game tab.)

The other civ must also have Alliances tech and you need Close relations with them. There are several threads on this; try a search for "close relations" and add site:forums.galciv2.com to search just here.

More like required, at least for DL and DA. TA will build new designs for you, but AFAIK, once you get the hang of it, you're always better off making your own designs in response to your tech, your research/trading plans, and the ship designs of the civs you fear most or want to attack next.
