Questions from newbie.

O.k, I have a couple of questions:

1. Do the factories on a planet contribute to the planet or to your civ as a whole? If its just for the planet then should you just build one or two factories for a planet that is not for making ships?

2. If you build (ie not buy) a ship, does it cost you credits?

3. How do market centres(etc) work? Do they provide money per centre or as a percentage?

Factories provide production only for the planet on which they are built. If you are not going to be building ships, you should build however many you think you will need to upgrade at a reasonable rate. given enough asteroid mining bases, you might not even need one. Don't forget that you can always build over them later.

Not directly, no. Your treasury will not decrease from building a ship or building. It does cost credits from your economy, but that just effect your profit's bottom line, not the treasury directly.

3. How do market centres(etc) work? Do they provide money per centre or as a percentage?

Market Centers improve your income from whatever sources the planet has by the percentage listed in their properties. They stack, so if you build 5 of them, you'll get a lot more money than if you build 1. The bonuses are always applied to the base, so two markets with a 15% bonus equal a 30% bonus to the base income of your planet.

Population and tax rate. The economy boni of the various improvements and the racial abilities get added after that.

So when you first colinise a planet, the market centres will be less efficient?

Corerct, so you would need a higher population. But rember that the higher the population the lower the public support is.

As a newbie myself I find this interesting, I did think factories were just planet wide but its good to now know. I always assumed research stations were global though is this the case ? I know it may sound dumb but just trying to make sure Im not missing something fundamental regarding research

I also assumed worse ecco when a planet hardly has anyone on it. (Once again not meaning to come across dumb its just Im currently looking for holes in my game so I can finally get past the apocalypse campaign mission and enjoy the newer expansions)

edit................

Posted at the same time as the person above ^^ so one of my querys has been answered

All research is global. Your empire is only researching one tech at a time, and all tech points you produce anywhere contribute to learning that tech.

To elaborate a bit: Research is generated per planet, then totaled. Each planet generates a number of RPs based on your spending and the buildings the planet has. Bonus tiles affect only the building on them - but NOT buildings that add +% reseach (tech capital, etc).

Any building or ethical colonization event with +% research affect that planet only; research mining starbases and +% research anomalies are global.
