Cannot remove icons or move icons in dock

I've got this annoying problem not to be able to remove an icon, or reassign it to another place on the bar.

Idea's anyone?

Right click on the dock > view > lock icon dragging, make sure it's not checked.

Thank you, but I've tried that. No locking checked, for the rest I can add, but not drag to the desired place and "lifting" it out of the docket so it evaporates into a cloud is also not possible.

Is this a tabbed dock or a normal dock?
Is it a running app dock?

What happens when you drag off the dock and release?

I really don't know.
Where can I see that?
I scrutinized the screens but can't find it.

If I try and lift the docklets they raise a little but at the edge they "drop" back again.
And dragging is a complete "No, No"

Help is gratefully apprieciated.

Are you running the free or the paid version?

The tabbed docks are only available if you paid.
And if you are running the free version, it's showing you the apps that are running (and maybe some shortcuts).  You can't remove running tasks from the dock, just the shortcuts.

Here's an image with a runnign task dock and a tabbed dock:

Have you tried toggling it on and back off?

I'm running the paid version.
And from your description and picture; I guess it is a normal dock.

Yes, I did try and toggle it on and of.

Your comment :

Right click on the dock > view > lock icon dragging, make sure it's not checked.

Where is the "view" tab?

If I right click on the dock I get a popupscreen in which lockdragging is not checked.
Is that what you mean?

Even removed the entire programme TWICE, killed every and all refferences in the registry, double checked again if registry was free of all refferences to Stardock or Object Dock plus.

But allas, nada...

Is the icon you are trying to drag off a program that is running?

As a test, right-click on teh icon.  Does it have "Add this application to the dock"?  If so, that's a running application and can't be dragged off.  You have  a running application dock.

If you want a dock that has shortcuts you will want to create a new dock.

Thank you for your advice and all.

Besides not being able to lift icons from the dock;
I can't even shlepp them to a different place on the dock so as to cluster them.

Neither the added separators.

What version and build are you running?
What OS?

It sure sounds like your locked dragging is checked.

Uninstall/reinstall?

snowcap2801,

Have you tried clearing the cache files?

XP = '\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock' folder.

Note - Local Settings is a hidden folder.

Just unload ObjectDock and then delete any ObjectDock or ObjectDock Plus folder found at the above address. This will force ObjectDock to load with the default settings. If the cache was not deleted after uninstall, ObjectDock is probably re-using the configuration files in the cache.

Vista address is something like: '\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Stardock' or '\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Stardock'.

Not sure what else might lock the icons unless perhaps locking the desktop creates this issue (if you have the desktop locked via the desktop context menu). Sorry, not running XP at this time.

Version 1.90 Plus
Build 535u

XP Pro SP3

And yes, locked dragging is not activated.

Uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times by now.
Even cleared the registry from any refferences to Stardock and/or Object dock.

Suggestions anyone?

Did you try Corky_O's advice, it's what we in support would suggest;

XP = '\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock' folder.

Well if the setting isn't turned on then it would generally be a cache issue where the setting simply wasn't taking. However if you have done that as well then something is either corrupted or interrupting. Do you have any no standard docks installed on the dock you could try removing from the directory they are installed from to see if they are the cause? Also you might have answered this already but uninstall/reinstall with Impulse?

Our new downloading system to replace Stardock Central.

You can find it here: http://impulsedriven.com/about.asp

The version that is available there is the highest beta for Object Dock. It is still a beta mind you but it does contain serveral fixes for the software. Let me know how this works for you.

It has been a while since the post on May 6th. Has there been any resolution on the problem?

I have exactly the same problems as the original poster. I have tried all the suggestions except switching to impulse. No joy.

I didn't switch to impulse because I was not sure if I could switch back if there was a problem.

Les Hazelton, Yes you can download and use Impulse all you like. You can even have it and Stardock Central installed at the same time with out issue. If you don't like it you won't have to use it. However please know that eventually Stardock Central will be replaced by Impulse.

Let me know if you still have further troubles or you can also contact us at support@stardock.com.

Ok...if your using the Normal dock with no tabs....bring the dock out and move your mouse down to the bottom of the dock till you see no titles of the icons you have there...then right click and see if you have it locked there. Unlocking it from a tabbed dock doesn't unlock the normal docks....just the tabbed ones as well as the other way around.

Then if you want to move an icon from the tabbed dock to another tab or a normal you can move it over to the normal dock temporarily.

[SLOVED] Thanks to "cagedty" who pointed out that having my mouse switched to left-handed could cause the problem.

I switched the mouse back to the default and was able to modify the icon/launcher position as desired. Then, returned to the, for me, more comfortable left-handed position.

TO: Stardock support, you might want to look at why having a left-handed mouse makes a difference. I didn't believe it when I read the post. Then I tried it and much to my surprise it solved the problem. Now that I have returned the mouse to left-handed the icons are again stuck in place.

ps: Impulse is rather nice :)

I hate to say it but I would not have guessed that one. Les Hazelton what OS at what bit speed are you running? I would like to test and document that occurance for the developers.
