Vasari Sentinel frigate -- decent fighting ship too?

While playing Vasari a couple nights ago, having a maxxed out tech tree, I noticed that my Sentinel frigates--the "anti-aircraft" frigates were listed as dishing out 25 points of phase missile damage, exceeding the damage done by my Ravastra Skirmishers light frigates and my Assailant long range missile ships.  Also, the Sentinel seemed to have good armor and a nice amount of shield points and hull points, all for only 5 energy credits.

Do those Sentinels damage other ships or doos that 25 points of phase missile damage only apply against fighters and bombers?

The sentinals do antiverylight damage -- they can't do more than dent cobalts and teh like, but yes they can shred fighters, bombers, and light armored craft like LRMs and siege frigates.

So, the 25 points of phase missile damage doesn't really apply against heavier ships, just lightly armored craft and strike forces?

Thats right. There's a chart floating around somewhere that breaks down the damage modifiers in detail. In fact, I think it might be stickied in this forum. Seeing how a sentinel does antiverylight damage, it will be effective against fighters, bombers, siege frigates, and to a somewhat lesser degree, long range frigates. Against ships like Cobalts and larger ships, it only does 25% normal damage against those armor types. So roughly, only 6 points against most ships with heavier armor than LRMs.

The sentinel will be somewhat more effective against LRMs than flak frigates or defense vessels because of the phase missile's shield penetration. But then again, the ship will cost more too, so it balances out.

Another thing to note is that the anti-fighter ships break their guns into four groups, one set pointing in each direction. So that damage is divided by 4 THEN the armour type gets factored in. An unupgraded Sentinel doing 20 dps, is actually doing 5 dps per direction. It does 150% damage against fighters, 100% against bombers, siege frigates and long-range frigates, but only 25% agaisnt everything else. That's 1.25 dps unaugmented against most ships, which is not very effective.
