Who is Ironclad?

I am wondering who Ironclad is exactly.

I see Frogboy and others from Stardock, but I personally have not seen an Ironclad person talking and updating in the forums.

Are they interconnected, or totally separate entities?

Has there been or will there ever be a person from Ironclad to talk in the forums about their game?

Just wondering.

Thanks

They are a separate Canada-based company, and the developers of Sins (their first game!). Stardock is their partner/publisher. It's really more of a partner than just a plain publisher, because they work together pretty closely.

They post fairly often, except when they're in major busy periods. You can easily tell Ironclad guys apart from Stardock's because they'll show up RED in the "Users browsing" section, instead of blue :)

They've done dev chats on IRC, and plenty of forum posting :)

Ironclad made Sins and we are a seperate company from Stardock (they are the publisher, we are the developer). We are usually in here just as much Stardock if you check the posts prior to the last couple weeks. Like Annatar said, when we disappear it just means we are really busy creating new stuff for you guys (in this case the new version 1.03 patch) but we are always online reading suggestions/problems so we can prioritize what goes into each update even if we aren't saying much. We are also quite active in the IRC channel and in the Ironclad Online lobby (offering tutorials, tech support etc). Once v1.03 is out expect to see all our faces around just as much as before.

You can tell who we are by the red text or by the Ironclad Shield as our avatar.

And as to why I'm posting so much tonight, well it's because 1.03 is almost done and I'm just watching the AIs battle it out.

Craig Fraser of Ironclad recently posted in another thread (concerning MP game speed) ... It must have been posted around 3 AM (Vancouver, Canada time) ...

PS > and now, he just posted over me !

OOOoooo, is this a new feature in 1.03? Or just something that you devs get to do?

Oh, it's also worth noting in response to the OP, some of the folks at Ironclad also worked on HW: Cataclysm ;)

Thanks guys. I never noticed the Red Shield before and did not know you all have been so active.

So some of Ironclad were part of Barking Dog? I really enjoyed HW:Cataclysm. I loved finally getting the cannon and firing half way across a map and making a big boom!

Corrupting ships was fun, but not nearly as fun as the cannon.

Thanks again guys and I look forward to what you create in the future.

Too bad you could not redo a Cataclysm type game with things like the cannon and such. The Mothership in HW was much easier to see than the ships in SoaSE.

Oh, I almost forgot; I really loved mining the crystal and then ramming ships into them as a Mothership or Capital ships passed nearby. It was Big fun with chain reaction explosions.

hey I didn't know IC was Canadian based. :) good stuff. more an more canadian based developers are popping up.

it was mentioned earlier that this was your first major project was it not? (excluding cataclysm)

if so, well done gents, well done indeed.

Ironclad is easily the best gaming studio I've ever worked with.  You want to talk about solid stuff.  Even the beta testers can tell you that crashes in the beta were few and far between. Amazingly solid coding skills.

Stardock and Ironclad are a bit unusual in the sense that it's a far far more collaborative partnership than one typically sees.

For example, Ironclad is very involved in the Sins marketing both in terms of the box design, advertising, website (they pretty much did this website), and dozens of other things. Ironclad has a strong background in design and printing and this has allowed us to produce materials of a much higher standard than is typically seen in a much shorter amount of time than you'd normally see.

Similarly, Stardock has been very involved in the development of Sins both in terms of content and direction (like on the intro movie which was done by the same Stardock team that did the GalCiv intros) as well as game design where we took our strategy game design experiences and combined them into a master design.

I think one of the reasons why the game has turned out so well is that both teams have integrated our collective capabilities into a single bigger team.  I think most big studios and big publishers would be shocked at the low-level integration of the teams.  I'd go as far as to say that the integration of resources between Stardock and Ironclad is more thorough than some of the inhouse studios at major publishers between themselves. Seriously.

Well just goes to show that the smaller the company the better the game. You guys just want to give us a good game(and most likely enjoy it yourself lol)and not just pump out games to make money like the big companyies.Helps that there is no competiton between you either.Great game. :CONGRAT:

I agree, the smaller the company the more intimate the relationship with their clients and the better the products.

Maybe there's still room for me though? You know, in the "geek-room" (server closet hehe  :p ) I'll keep to myself, you'll just hear me mumbling IP addresses, NAT-rules and such to myself........ :HOT:
