Idea for AI

Retreating

I understand that AI retreat if they're outnumbered or whatever, but it does kind of make it anticlimatic. There's nothing like two huge fleets clashing together over a chokepoint...Which seems to only happen in Multiplayer.

AI just seems to retreat if they lose their capital ships, if they stay at all. Unless it's their last planet. And by then, you have such a huge advantage, it's not even funny.

I propose an idea. Certain AI types, like Agressor should be much more willing to say and fight it out, while Defenders won't retreat if they're at their own planet, Economists though, they retreat the same amount. Agressors should be AGRESSIVE, not just building lots of small frigates. That's not agressive. I want to see them much more likely to duke it up, while Defenders want to defend their hard-worked planet.

To me that sounds great, i personally cant stand the cowardly AI and its oh hes got a bigger fleet so I better run away. Gotta love it, If I was one of the colonist on that planet and my fleet just high taled it out of there leaving me to the wolves I would be like WTF. So yea we deffiantly need a better AI that stands and fights.

I would think if there was an epic battle, it would be at the homeworld.
Sacrifice the colonies, pull your fleet together for one big fight.

Except that the AI already rebuilds at a massive rate. Which is fine with me, but it's like there's no reason to. Put those resources to USE. You can rebuild a fleet, because you've slowed me down by a ton. Besides, you need resources, and if the other person has all the planets and asteroids except your homeplanet, it doesn't even matter that you saved your fleet. Because they have a fleet that's like 10x bigger, with much better upgrades.

actually i had two massive fleets fight today, i severly outnumbered the enemy, i had 7 caps and he had 4 caps. not to mention the countless frigates i had out numbering his. anyway, he didn't run until he was down to 1 cap and about half his frigates were down and then i was like Whoo-Hoo because i actually had a nice battle. other details, the battle occured at a sun, i was advent, comp was vasari.

otherwise i find the best fights to be at pirate bases when they are at severe, lots o' ships lots of debris, nowhere for them to run, and i have actually been outnumber once.

A little off topic, but this gives me a idea with regards to planet takeovers.

If you retreat from a battle at one of your planets, a timer starts until that planet goes neutral, the time depending on the allegiance of that planet. You need to bring a fleet back in which to stop and slowly reverse the timer, with the enemy fleet gone the timer will continue to slowly reverse itself.

Now have the AI decide what planets it really doesn't want to lose and you can force some very interesting battles and help with the AI running away until it only has 1 or 2 worlds left.

Bump. More ideas? I want this to be noticed, and more people to offer suggestions/ideas.

I kind of like the ideas being discussed here. But I'm not sure what the proper implementation would be. I'm curious to see what AI improvements have been made for the upcoming 1.03 patch.

More like just making the AI less cowardly and more stay put and fight.
