Planetary surface?

Hello,

I've been looking at this game for a while now, and have a question that I haven't seen answered on these forums or in any of the videos I found (or I didn't look hard enough):

Can you zoom down and actually see the surface of your planets, i.e if nothing else to see whatever improvements or whatnot you have added to your planet?

No, but you can zoom very close to planets. Planet textures are pretty hi res. The only visible thing you will see on the planets themselves is population. The planet elevators, and cars represent how much pop you have. The more you see the more pop there is.

The planets are highly detailed.  You can zoom in and see corresant-like traffic cruising about between space elevators. As you develop your planet, more space elevators of different types begin to pop up and more traffic flows between them.  On the dark side of the planet you can see 'city' lights.  If you zoom in to have a closer look you can actually here the faint buzz of the traffic!

Edit.  I forgot to mention - planets also have fluctuating clouds that move about the atmosphere as well. Terrain planets have glossy oceans, ice planets have reflective ice patches, and volcanic planets have bright glowing magma veins. As you guess, planets were a high priority for our art team ;)

Thats sounds very good. From what I've seen I thought the Planets were a simple texture only, but that sounds very cool.

I wish we could see planet's cities , similar to the one at the bottom of the forums <3

yea, I mentioned this one before, but from what I understand and we read here , it still is pretty dam cool! Hey you never know, the devs did say they plan on supporting this title for sometime, we might see a cool patch that just shows city growth on the planet, while really no strategic value, it would definitly add to the immersion, I am so hyped for this game :) can't wait for my order to go threw in a few days! Woot!

w00t. I keep saying that this game is everything i ever wanted in a Civ game, and it's only getting more true. Only problems i see with the game are a few qualms with the update system (made a post asking in detail about this in the technical forum).
