issue with multiple users on a single machine (vista)

not using admin account as main account in vista

Hi, my first post as I have recently started using Object Desktop.

I tried the demos of various products and decided to purchase a lisence for Object Desktop.

I installed SDC and ran it, whereupon it asked me for to use an admin account, which I did (figuring that it was required due to install and upgrade issues). I promptly began to install the various components...and reboot.

After the reboot I tried to use the new products that were installed and was promptly told:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

Perplexed, I promptly decided to check security permissions on a few of the Stardock files, and all had the Users group added. I changed the permissions to add my regular user ID to the permissions, it still failed to launch with the same error.

I checked access from the admin account I used when SDC launched and was able to access the products without issue. This leads me to believe eithe all accounts that use The products that I installed through SDC require admin access, or that I can only use it with one "user" on my computer (which must be my admin account, something I am loathe to do).

Forgive me if this was answered somewhere else but I had not been able to find anything by searching the forums or the knowledgebase.

Thanks in advance,

Quick update,

Upgraded my primary account to admin access level and the programs still gave the same error. This leads me to believe that SDC only allows 1 "user" per computer to use the software, which means to get everything working I will have to uninstall everything under the admin account then reinstall under my user account...? This is not really practical and I hope there is an easier solution....

er turning off UAC defeats part of the purpose of having an admin account....

found a solution finally in this post:

Glad the batch file worked for you. Ecstatic, actually. This is really the first verification there's been on that.

In case you didn't pick it up on the other thread, the issue will likely re-appear to some extent after you update any of the Stardock programs. Any files changed by the update will likely have the permission issue, at least for a while until that gets revised at the installation point. You'll need to run the batch file again after update, or a similar one pointed specifically to the updated directories if you're comfortable with copying/editing batch files.

Yay Mike!  :CONGRAT:
