It was obvious this was coming. Their pricing was way out of line on most of their hardware. The main thing they were good for was, if you needed something right then, you could usually find it there. Overpriced but in stock.
End of quote
Wasn't so much they were asking too much, but more that the other mobs were cutting prices beyond their ability to equal it, purely to put them out of business and capture a greater market share...happens all the time, and once they're gone prices will go through the roof.
Happening here in Oz with our largest retailer, Woolworths Australia. They've declared war on all their smaller competitors, even to the point of selling well below cost to boost customer traffic by under-pricing the smaller stores. Once all the nearby competitors have closed and moved on, Woolworths prices soar markedly. You got the same with Wal-Mart over there in the US... the greed's no damned different to that of our capitalist pigs'.
It's pure greed alright... eff the customers so long as No1 is alright. Each week the missus and I are leaving more and more of our regular groceries on the shelf, yet the total at the checkout still manages to creep up a few dollars every time. And it don't last as long any more, neither.... why, cos what's inside the packaging is getting smaller while the price hovers around the same or gets bigger. Check it out/keep an eye open and you'll see it's true.
Ya know, the more civilized modern society professes the be, the less civilized we actually become... fewer people are looking out for one another than ever before. Even primitive cultures have a better track record than modern 'so-say' civilized man.
