(:( Very sad to hear this news and especially for all those working for the company. I guess many people are buying their stuff from Newegg and other net retailers.......... :NOTSURE:

That sucks they have more computer stuff than CircuitCity or Best Buy. :p

Yeah, ALMonty I agree. I have always found them better than the two you mention  :)

It was obvious this was coming. Their pricing was way out of line on most of their hardware. The main thing they were good for was, if you needed something right then, you could usually find it there. Overpriced but in stock.

Yeah, I was never personally a big fan of CompUSA. Convenience was the only thing they really had going for them....... Hate it for the employees, though.....

I went there 2 , maybe 3 times and they were over priced, no service.  Ya stood around and if you tried to flag down someone they either ignored you or said they were busy.  That was my experience with they 2 stores here.

Great.. the last place you can actually go IN town and find a good assortment of PC stuff and.. their closing..The last bastion of instant gratification  X-(

This all must bode well for UPS. :NOTSURE:

Wasn't so much they were asking too much, but more that the other mobs were cutting prices beyond their ability to equal it, purely to put them out of business and capture a greater market share...happens all the time, and once they're gone prices will go through the roof.

Happening here in Oz with our largest retailer, Woolworths Australia. They've declared war on all their smaller competitors, even to the point of selling well below cost to boost customer traffic by under-pricing the smaller stores. Once all the nearby competitors have closed and moved on, Woolworths prices soar markedly. You got the same with Wal-Mart over there in the US... the greed's no damned different to that of our capitalist pigs'.

It's pure greed alright... eff the customers so long as No1 is alright. Each week the missus and I are leaving more and more of our regular groceries on the shelf, yet the total at the checkout still manages to creep up a few dollars every time. And it don't last as long any more, neither.... why, cos what's inside the packaging is getting smaller while the price hovers around the same or gets bigger. Check it out/keep an eye open and you'll see it's true.

Ya know, the more civilized modern society professes the be, the less civilized we actually become... fewer people are looking out for one another than ever before. Even primitive cultures have a better track record than modern 'so-say' civilized man. X-(

It was the same way in the store they had here (until it closed a few years back), except for having a lot of stock... smallest CompUSA store I've ever been in. Probably why they closed here .. high prices and had almost no selection.

Oh yeah ... ditto on the poor service.

Everything they sold was overpriced anyway, im not surprised this happened. Even with shipping costs things on NewEgg and alike where cheaper.

Yep, Woolworths has been in operation here in Oz for more than 50 - 60 years now...

...shoot, I can even remember FW Woolworths in England when I was a kid in the 50's.

Don't think Woolies here is related to either the UK or US stores, tho

Nah, they became capitalist pigs and right royal bastards in their own right. :(

Oh man. Don't even get me started on this subject...... Not only will I hijack the thread, I will take it hostage and eventually kill it whether my demands are met or not!

And (as usual) I have to agree with you completely starkers. It's not about people. It's all about money, pure and simple. It's an ugly truth, but a truth just the same. :NOTSURE:

Even though I know the forums are a place for free speech and all...this line is inciteful at best.
We as adults should "try" to leave race out of conversation, unless it bears on the conversation.  ;)

Ya just had to feed the troll!

What does race have to do with this?

I appologize, maybe this would have been more suitable. Your comment, without explanation could be taken badly. I know what you mean about Mexicans and how it bears on the situation but I feel you could have structured that comment better.

Please strike my earlier comment.

The one thing CompUSA had going for it was the software. They carried Bryce,3DMax, AutoCad and a lot of other graphic programs that the other stores don't have.

How does your statement about a mexican bear on this thread?

I agree with messiah on this one.

From the link:
CompUSA, the computer and gadget retailer controlled by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, has been sold to a restructuring and investment firm that will close stores and sell some company assets.

Do you see that anywhere in my thread?

I know about this guy...my point was this...instead of providing a link to this, you just slam the mexican for taking his bag full of American dollars and going home. He earned those American dollars. It's his business...to do with what he wants. You post a comment that could be taken the wrong way. Forums have a tendancy to do that. BUT, there really wasn't a need to write your post the way you did. Talk about feeding the troll.

Mexican bear? .... do they even have bears in Mexico?
