Steam games links aren't working

I have copied the shortcut(ends with -steamapp *Some number*) that is provided for HL2 TF2 CSS and Portal, yet none of these dock icons work. Is there an alternate shortcut for these?

Can you drag an existing, working link from your desktop to the dock?

Try going into the directory and dragging the actuall .exe to the dock.
