1.8e Fleet Movement Error

1.8e Fleet Movement Error

I've noticed that when I group ships into a fleet and order them to move a distance beyond what they can move in one turn that it refuses to acknowledge the order. It doesn't crash the game, but it does make it annoying to move large groups of ships long distances as I must either send them as single ships, or I must babysit them every single turn. Anyone else getting this bug?

Isn't there a way to revert to the last build. I looked at the download manager but couldn't seem to pull up the prior build.

No, you can't get the old build unless you archived it at the time.
Once there is a new build, I don't think you can archive your current build. At least I've never been able to do it. When I tried it, I got a way old build.

It would be nice to have old builds--but not now.

We haven't given Stardock enough time to fix the bug and so it might be wise
to wait.

Yeah you're right. There were no offense there anyway. I know clearly that it is week-end and I understand what it mean.

But it's just that it is a simple bug. Just give us a a 1.8f with a single bug-fix. Should not take too long ?

I'm really not a programmer thought hehe. I just re-installed the game with dark avatar. Had not played since august if I'm good. It's just boring to start playing again when this bug came out. Anyway...I cant wait for the bug to be fix.

I think this is one of the most ludicrous bugs I've ever seen in a game... I mean how did it arrive to final consumers?!?
I think Stardock should improve the beta testing process before relasing a patch to the public: patches are supposed to solve existing problems, not creating new ones!
And in the future they should give, to Stardock Central, the possibility to downgrade a game: if this was possible we wouldn't be bothered by this bug very much because we could have just reverted to the previous version of Dark Avatar.

Just found another side effect of this one. If asteroids mined by someone else are in the way your ships try to attack it. Successful if your at war with them, but you get the warning about going to war otherwise. It seems to happen most often very near the end point of the trip. They seem to home in on the nearest object and either try to kill it or colonise it. Reminds me of a girl i met once

Just want to add my voice to the numbers. Same problem, hope they fix it soon. It's such a fantastic game it would be a shame for such a silly bug such as this to ruin the experiance.

Yes it's a very annoying bug (ah better... bugs because there are more than just one) and there is still no-patch!
Yup, me too. I appreciate all the hard work for continued free patches though

A feature to roll-back to previous release would be nice to give you guys time to fix it and allow us to continue playing.

Yea thats the same bug that is causing ships to try to colonize any planet that is in its flight path regardless of final destination. Does the same with asteroid fields within the flight path.

Also another one, was playing some a couple days ago and got the "corvette class" ships message and when I looked it was stacks and stacks of the, literally hundreds of corvette class ships the game gave me all in one turn. maybe 500 of them, stacked.

Alright, there's a new build not yet offiically released which fixes the fleet movement bug, I believe. So, it's a matter of time before this bug-fixing version is released.
[11:38:43] [drakend] it seems to functions cari elf
[11:38:58] [drakend] the fleets mantains their path through turns
[11:39:09] [drakend] and they avoid planets as well
Edit: Oops, IRC nickname tags are the same as HTML tags. d'oh.

Yeah the fix seems to function well... the "colonize planet" bug was releated to the fleets losing their path. Now they go around them very nicely.

Drak: Where can we get this fix? I don't mind if its a "beta" fix. At the moment the fleet bug makes the game unenjoyable for me.

CariElf has a fix up here:

The staff sent it to me as beta testing and I'm not authorized to send it around: try asking the staff directly...

EDIT: Ok problem solved!

I have the same fleet movement problem and the start button does'nt recycle so you can't go to the next turn.....like everyone else this is very frustrating.
You think the boys at Stardock would have noticed such a serious and widespread bug. They must have not played the game with the 1.8e patch otherwise they would have fixed it quickly.

And I also wished that the previous patch was available, I suppose if I want to play the game I'll have to erase and reinstall the original 1.5 version until Stardock decides give us the fix.

If Stardock has a beta fix why not release it to everybody, it's a lot better than what we have now. ( see previous post )

Read the post above that.

It is released. Thanks, Cari.

She is not completely sure about it yet since there hasn't been enough time to test it with a lot of people. So it is not an official release.
The link is found in the first "sticky" post at the top of bug forum.
It is a zip file that you can download and try. We'll see whether it fixes
the problem.

Given that the bug was reported late Thursday, we should be glad we got something
so early. So let's try it out--we are beta testing to see if it works. If it does, it will become an official 1.80f later.

Thanks Cari & Stardock.

I have to say that I am ashamed by the whining, childish, thoughtless behavior displayed by elements of the player community over this bug/incident;

and honored that we have someone as committed, dedicated and capable as Carielf taking care of us on Stardock's behalf.

Quite frankly, those of you who were bitching so heavily that Cari hadn't published an official fix on FRIDAY NIGHT, SATURDAY, or SUNDAY...OF A HOLIDAY WEEKEND should have your GalCiv registrations cancelled or something. You are lucky that Cari was even looking at her busines mail over the weekend, and took time our of her real life to find you a fix and post it somewhere you could find it.

Thanks, Cari, for the terrific, timely, and often selfless support you give our little recreational game problems, even at the expense of your personal time. (And thanks, Brad, for hiring and inspiring such dedicated staff.) The rest of you, the ones who felt moved to post "still no patch" every 12 hours through the weekend -- grow up.

On behalf of the Gerontocracy,
drrider

Here here Drrider. Many thanks to the crew for looking into this and fixing it so quickly. Great job well done.

drrider I was going to reply to your post extensively but I changed my mind because I don't want to continue your flame. I'm writing this reply because of your very bad accusations you are making to people who posted here. About what I'm concerned I didn't mean to blame Stardock harshly for this little accident even for a second: I posted here only to know other users' experiences and I was a little annoyed because I couldn't play to GalCiv, but nothing more. I didn't read other posts who blame Stardock harshly either: people posted in this thread because they wanted to know if others had the same bugs and their annoyance is a show of how much they care about GalCiv and nothing more. Nobody sane in his mind would except Stardock to release a patch during the week-end I think: on Monday Stardock released an unofficial (but working) fix and this shows how much Stardock cares about their customers.
I don't reply to other offenses because it's wasted time but a grown up man isn't supposed to use offenses in his sentences, but only rationality and experience.
