The "Star" ratings box

Hi, I don't know if this is the first time such a request has been made, but in the skin-downloads pages, I've found the download button and skin-ratings box to be in such close proximity that I have on occasion inadvertently clicked a rating, rather than the download button. This is partly due to me being a bit hasty with the mouse, but also the fact that the ratings-box is a mouse-over item. As such, and to illustrate, I went to download Essorant's recently updated "Nuage Redux" 'blind, but by the time I clicked the download button, the ratings mouse-over had activated, and a two-star rating was taken instead. Is there any chance these two entities could be separated some more? (...and if poss, admin - could you adjust my mistaken 2-star rating for that skin to 5 stars?)

Thanks, in advance.

Good feedback
I'd like to see them switch positions if nothing else.

I've definitely run into the same problem in the past myself.

The good thing is that if you do happen to give a skin a rating you're unhappy with, or perhaps judge a skin prematurely, you can still go back and give it the proper rating you feel it deserves. It will just replace your pre-existing rating.

This was brought up when the site re-design first appeared. Still annoys the hell out of me, has done since the first day!

This has been mentioned numerous times since the first week of new site.

And while a lot of us know you can go back and rate the skin again - not everyone does know. They also may not even notice what they gave for a rating. Sometimes it happens so fast you don't even see it.

Another issue here is the drop-down not remaining in place long enough to give *say* a 5 star rating. Quite often it can take several (manipulatory) attempts to rate a skin successfully, with the drop-down frequently popping back in again. A fix for this would be hugely appreciated.

I never understood the point of the drop-down.  I'd have liked to see the average ratings until I mouseovered . . then highligh whatever starts I am on as my rating.  That's just me and I wouldn't want to have to (or make the web team) code for that.

Wow... Superb bunch of swift replies!

milksama, thanks for the info about re-voting. I'll do just that.

Just shows how much reading of previous posts I (don't) do.

Agreed - on any occasion where I actually meant to vote, I've suffered this problem, so yeah, if this could also be "fixed", t'would be grand.

Thanks again chaps/chapesses.

My problems with this are when I try to give a five star rating, the box will disapear on me before I get the chance to click the 5 stars. Like it "feels" the mouse proximity to the download button and it gets overridden. Happend so many times once that I got frustrated and left the page because the box just wouldn't stay when I tried to mouse over the stars. (I came back later and conquered it though) I agree that a different location for one or the other would be good.

Hmmm... so, no change then? I can see how this has frustrated many of the old-timers here, if it's been requested several times in the past, and seemingly ignored.

It has been forwarded to the net team.

No problem.  Just not a priority outside of the normal update cycle I'd guess.

I don't mean to be rude, but this delay seems unbelievably long-winded for such an apparently minor change. I posted my initial concerns almost seven weeks ago, and as far as I know, this issue has irritated a great many users for over a year!

Probably longer. The people that have Vista and 64bit systems want their problems fix also. Which do you think is going to get priority?  :NOTSURE:

I think by prefacing your comment by not wanting to be rude you are in fact preparing readers that you are about to be rude and are asking forgiveness beforehand.  It's an admirable intent but I think it fails because there is no need for rudeness at all.
We have no idea how easy or complex your requested change may be.   We do not know what other projects have a higher priority to this change.

Also, we know that it's a irritant to a few people that have posted.  But there may be other issues affecting more people.

I believe that the Wincustomize developers have their client's best interest in mind.  The clients are what pay their salaries.  In time this issue may be addresses to your (and my) satisfaction.  Until then, I am aware of the situation and I work around it.  I suggest you adapt also.  Getting upset won't help but patience couldn't hurt.  :)

Not sure if you're replying to me Phllly, but if you are, the issue to which I'm referring is so apparently simple, that I doubt any web-developer with more than a couple of months experience under their belt would have trouble fixing it, in a matter of minutes. I honestly don't understand why this is still going on... It's mystifying.

Not much mystery about it. They are aware of the problem and will get to it in turn. :)

Nah, it was in retrospect, after having moaned about "what's the problem here?!?". :)

Ironically, the dropdown to control smilies here is remarkably similar to the mouse-over in question... but for the fact that the smilie one works. ;)

Lets look at it this way, although the Star Ratings box is an annoyance it still works.

People running WB6 and other Stardock programs on Vista have problems running those programs when they shouldn't. Even the smallest of problems that in our minds should/can be fixed easily will get a lower priority.

I'm sure there are alot of other annoyances here also, all of them I'm as sure will be fixed in time. ;)

To just to add to the confusion ;p

I could be wrong but people working on WB and other SD programs may not be the ones working on Wincustomize website, just a hunch. C pla pla vs html kind?

lol... That's the whole point Philly - it doesn't. It really doesn't, unless you develop a specific "technique" to avoid its foibles. There are two main problems :

1 - I've gone to click "download", only to inadvertently click on a >insert random number between 1 & 5< rating instead.

2 - Just the other night I downloaded a skin and thought, "This is great, five-stars for sure!", and it took me, I sh** you not, 34!!! attempts to select the 5-star option! Stubbing a bare toe on a protruding carpet-tack is more enjoyable.
