WB6 XP explorer crashes on menubar click

Any ideas?

Just upgraded to WindowBlinds V6, which all looks graet, except that if i go to select any option (File, Edit, View etc...) from the standard menu bar in any standard XP window, explorer crashes and the whole desktop resets.

The toolbars work OK, as do IE and application windows. Tried re-installing WB6, but problem remains.

Can anyone help, or should I just revert to V5?

Can you post your system info from WB?

Would you try this WB and see if the problem is still there?

Hi, thanks for that - yeah - great looking skin, but it happens with that too. I have found one that it doesnt happen on and that is stardocks adamant. it happens with all the other startdock skins

sypolog: Could you list what other applications you have running please.
Yeh - skin-independent.

One oddity I have is that if there is a 'favorites' menu, that works fine. Move the mouse left or right to pull down another menu though, and the windows desktop falls over!

Keep posting, silverspider - it certainly sounds like we have a similar experience!

Neil -

IE7, Office 2003 SP3 - all apps work fine, just get this with Windows explorer-based windows, if you know what I mean. Notepad is OK.

Have an app running that will crash and from a command prompt run tasklist /M > log.txt

and then open log.txt and find the section for an app which does the crash & post the modules listed for it.

It will look something like this :

calc.exe                    9560 ntdll.dll, kernel32.dll, SHELL32.dll,
                                 ADVAPI32.dll, RPCRT4.dll, GDI32.dll,

Hi Neil, thought I would have a bash this way too but i cannot make the tasklist run. i get a message saying that tasklist isnt recognised as an internal or external command. Sorry can you spell it out to this daft old bat please?

Cheers - thanks for being patient with me

yep - lokks like we both have exactly the same prob - thats just how im finding it. Have you tried applying the Adamant skin. I dont get the problem using that one. Funny how its only that skin thats not affected.
Neil - as it seems to be just us two affected at the moment, would it help you if I stuck to this thread then we are both in one place for you?

silverspider: It sounds like you have XP home?

That tool is not provided with XP home.

Instead please download

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/ListDlls.mspx

Then run listdlls > log.txt and e-mail me the log.txt file.  My address is my firstname @stardock.com

sypolog: could you also download & run the above app & mail me the results.

silverspider: yes stick to this thread as it keeps it all in one place.

Just installed the latest Adamant. Looks good (tho I prefer Eminence) but doesn't fix the problem

no it doesnt permenantly but it does for me whilst that skin is loaded so in between trying out stuff for Neil, im using it Shame it doesnt work for you - i'd hoped it could have been some common ground for Neil to perhaps work from to find the fix.

Perhaps he will find it then using the dll info we have sent him. keeping me fingers crossed......

I also have had the explorer.exe crash/restart/crash/restart... etc.
very frustrating
reinstalled windows XP Pro twice, unistalled everything that has to do with object desktop including SD central. XP Pro works fine now, but can't use the software I paid nearly $50.00 for. Extremely frustrating.

I have just found the same problem , explorer crashes and restarts after trying to use the explorer menus. Unload Windowsblinds 6 and everything is fine
