Guilty Parties

Tues. Night Freewrite

Today I emptied my 401K and put it all in tattoo removal companies,
Piercing reconstructive surgery as well,
I'm banking on regrets,
Guilty parties I throw without invites,
But I'm sure you'll all come.

Wouldn't miss it for the world,
And the world I am certainly missing,
It's gotta be around here somewhere,
Standing about-face.

This face is a map that can lead me back,
To 16 year old notions of cool,
That are current 16 year old notions of everything uncool,
That make current 26 year olds feel old.

Surely that must be a bad thing,
We haven't given up,
We've accepted that this is as good as it gets,
Not just as good as it got.

I'm banking on regrets,
But not my own,
Self investment has always been quite lucrative,
But I tire of that trade.

So it's time for bed,
Lay to rest past pressures and insecurities,
Being underrated is way underrated,
So I wear my regrets proudly for all to see.

Only then does the world re-turn,
And makes me dizzy,
So I cancel the party,
And head to the bank to collect.

26 year old - old? Hmmm. I must be ancient!

I liked this, well done!

I dunno...I'm only three years on the short side of 40, and more hip than I ever was! Course, there's something cool about an Alan Ginsberg in a forest of John Lennons.

I think you get uncool, then rotate back to cool again. Least it seems thataway.

I hope that when I'm 26, I'm as wise as you.
