female skinners

I am just wondering, are there any master female skinners?  and how long will it take before females are recognized as equals as males on this site, and get promoted almost as fast as the males........  As a female, i personally dont believe that we are.  I feel that its very hard to be recognized as a serious skinner being female......

I think it has to be looked at in percentages # of Male masters compared to actual skinners.. is infintecimal.

Do the same math for Females.. your % might actually be higher than males.

Keep knocking out the theme's.. when your work is recognized by others.. the way that you have suggested.. by the people that count when it comes to promotion.. you will be recognized for it.

It should never b up to the artist to tell others how good their work is.

Do you really believe that you aren't a Master because you are female? I think your work is good. Is there room for improvement, yes, but that can be said of all of us.

I feel that its very hard to be recognized as a serious skinner being female

This statement is, in my opinion, ridiculous. Your skills are what will get you recognized. Nobody gives a flying flip whether you have a penis or not. I like your stuff Kitty, but I could do without the whining.

The preceding has been brought to you as an opinioin of a pea-brained male. Take it or leave it, it matters not to me.

I have to agree..I seriously doubt the ones giving promotions could care less if the skinner is male or female. Talent and contributing to the community will usually win every time.

I do, however, believe you are due for a promotion. In my opinion you've more than surpassed apprentice qualifications.

I have never checked profiles to see who is male or female.
I don't try to parse usernames for sexual  . . whatever.
The sex of an artist has never come up as critera for inclusion or exclusion for promotion as far as I know.

Skin for yourself.
Skin for your peers.
Skin to escape.
Skin to fit in.
Have fun.

Don't skin for a promotion.
Don't skin for downloads.
Don't skin for ratings.
Have fun.

One last thing; public statements like this can have many effects.  They can enlighten a problem or label a poster.  If you, Kitty were in line for a promotion this month (something I know nothing about one way or another; it's just an example) does a post like this make the promoter look like they are caving in to popular pressure?  Should the promotion continue?  Or should it wait until enough time has passed so the promotion is "unencumbered" by any political issues?

On another note, Stardock, the sponsor of this little piece of the web is chock full of women in positions of authority.  Not quiet women either.  Strong, independent, (wonderful) women.  I can not believe that there is any way in Hell they would allow any good- ol' boys to exclude anyone.

It's not cause they are not as active as Master males (especially news ones) that they aren't there

(Statement you not mine you kitty but a general people)
then:

I think those who give promotions don't really care that you are a female or a male
But they look your contribution to the community, being active and helpful (or at less try to be it), and your skin work.
You can be an awesome skinner if you don't contribute to the community i really don't think they will promote you more than master apprentice or journeyman... (just my own opinion)

There are many people here that are overlooked and overdue for promotions. They keep skinning in silence and have been doing so for years. I have seen newer members get several promotions in only a few months time. While I have no problem with that in particular....it doesn't seem to be a fair system at all.

Kitty.. You have not even been around that long. Every Master Skinner has been around for many years. In most cases since 2000 or earlier. Making Apprentice in less than a year isn't bad.

Saying you know for a fact that your work is better than some Journeymen kinda cracks me up. We have all been there. In a few months, you will look at your work, see big improvements and look back at old work and feel embarassed. Trust me. It will happen... and then it will happen again.

So there I am mopping the kitchen thinking about this post . . . . (I really need a life)

What do you (anyone who reads and wants to answer) think makes a person ready for the the next promotion?
Does it really matter that much which level you are?

From what I've found (from being a mod on another site) is that if it's one thing that identifies a person who shouldn't be marked for promoting, it's the ones that are so overly eager to get that promotion in the first place.

Same thing for the rating's system for those who care about ratings...it never seems fair.

But Zubaz put it short and sweet as far as what skinning should be about.

I think you could just check out to see what members continue to make skins on a regular basis and just because they dont hang out in forum or icq they should be recognised.

It does in some ways but mostly because of the 5 day waiting period for skins in mod queue. Journeyman do not wait - they are auto approved. That is probably the biggest plus of a journeyman.

Some people get promotions just by hanging in forum and never skinning anything - which is fine too. Helping in forum is always a big plus to any site. But it should work the same way for skinners that do not have time to hang in forum. Some are too busy skinning in the spare time they have between working life.

Since I'm a non-skinner you can say that I don't have a real apprerciation for this subject. You could say that, but you would be wrong.

Zubaz always comes up with an appropriate response.

What's means a level anyway? something about your skin work? I don't think
I think it's from a general view you need to watch (hope that means something)

from about page:

Apprentice
A citizen user who has submitted skins can be nominated to be promoted to an Apprentice. To become an apprentice one needs to be contributing to the skinning community in some way. WinCustomize is not the skinning community, helping other websites in the skinning community counts as well

Master Apprentice rank for those right on the verge of becoming Journeymen.

Journeymen
A handful of "super-citizens" will be at this class. These are people who are significant contributors to the community. The honorific "Sir" or "Lady" is appended to the front of their name. If you're a journeyman, then you are one biggest contributors to WinCustomize.com. The difference between a Journeyman and an Apprentice is that a Journeyman is contributing significantly to WinCustomize in particular as well as the skinning community in general.

Masters
These are the "elders" of the skinning community. People who have been around for awhile. Only a few people will be at this class. To be a Master, not only must the user be a significant contributor to the community, but instrumental to the day to day life of WinCustomize

i bold and underline what i think is important....
In my own opinion

now to answer you Zubaz

not joking: a person ready for the next promotion: someone who don't care about and just do what they do to help cause they like that and want to be helpful and who skin for fun (but keep improving their works and involving) not for ratings/downloads/promotions.

Add: everyones who think themself for themself

Be yourself and be happy and have fun in your life.
why if not are you there and in skinning community?
To get skins? ok
Make skins ok but you can keep them for you isn't it? if you share them, why? get recognition/download/ratings/promotions only? Same if you are here and help in forums.

My opinion: i think that if you do all of that to get recognition/download/ratings/promotions only; you are not in the good way or/and good site.
Again it's only my opinion and i could be wrong (translate english is hard ) But i really hope i'm not wrong cause if i am, i think i'm not on the good site.

There are very few female skinners, and wallpaper artists is not a skinner make. There are a few Journeyman wallpaper females and a few Journeyman windowblind females and part of those don't skin or upload to the site anymore. Starone was a Master skinner who made Wizop. I've asked the question for years now, why so few female skinners. No one knows unless they're too busy with the kids. If Keila and APB were still here, they would be Masters. But we'll just have to wait 'till some females rise to the top in skinning.

Hey Kitty....I dont really think lack of promotion is gender specific. I have been here for almost three years now and rank #88 in the hall of fame, #4 in the misc. icon Hall of Fame and 14th in the Icon Packager Hall of Fame. Have had almost a million hits on my site and am ranked #22 on skin comments. Not to mention I'm a moderator at Skinartistry.com and yet I'm still an apprentice. It used to really bother me that I havent moved up yet, especially seeing others being promoted with far less contributions than me (IMO). But at some point, I just let it go and stopped worrying about promotions. Skin to have fun! If it is meant to be.....It will happen. Godspeed, Jack

As for being a master, theres more to it than just # of skins and Quality. it's time invested, being an integral part of WC on a day to day basis not to mention contributing to skinning in general, The masters typically are integral members on many skinning sites). Can you really sit back and compare your self to Master's such as Treetog's works and say im of his and Alexandrie's caliber and deserve a master position?

Look at the Masters, with their years and years of time and pages of Skin contributions to WC as well as other contributions to the skinning community.

P.S.

Tip: "An Im better than all of you and I deserve a promotion" post rarely ever warms the communitys hearts and typically doesn't achieve the desired result

Wincustomize.com does not discriminate or differentiate between male and female in any way at all.

Promotions are simple cause/effect.  Sex is not important. [er...it is, but that's a different topic.....GENDER is not important].

In the dim, dark caverns of the Wincustomize site, rubbing shoulders with dormant bugs and their recently eradicated kin, the 'movers and shakers' are devising a way to 'guarantee' no-one is inadvertently overlooked for promotion.  There is typically going to have been a few who may be past-due for elevation, having slipped under the radar......but that too is not something particular to either gender, but both.

One of the 'good' bits of administering Wincustomize.com is the chance we have to [usually unnoticed] reward contributors/devotees to WC and skinning through the promotion system.  I for one have been doing it for years....and it's still a nice feeling...though conversely I do not enjoy the odd occasion the person may be on the decent rather than rise.  The latter engenders a feeling of disappointment, both in the person and perhaps too in his possible mis-management.

As for the question of females being masters and/or competent skinners, etc.....let's not forget Alexandrie.....[the good looking half of Pixtudio, - sorry, Renato, you know that bit's true... ].  Johanne's probably forgotten more about skinning than most have even imagined learning.

Hopefully in WC2K8 there'll be a 'register' of who's who and at what level.....it's something I've always hankered for....
