Selling tech is like striptease

Do it slowly - piece by piece!

I just sold Theory mass Drivers, railgun I+II to the Yor.

They offered me 227 for the package.
But I sold the technologies one by one, so I got 141+121+141=403 cr.

That is 76% more. Weird, isn't it?

I guess most of you found out about this years ago - but still someone outthere might be as dumb as I am.

I'd prefer to think of it as "inexperience".

Yep, if you sell multiple techs in the same line at once, the lower ones are drastically reduced in value.

However as of DA you can no longer bother the AI as often as you want to sell tech (depending on their stance towards you), so selling some at once may give you your cash earlier.

The only way to bother the AI as much as you want is to form an alliance. You can talk to to an ally anytime. Otherwise, you have to be make sure that you make good use of your opportunities. I don't know that I like this difference. It makes diplomacy opportunites less frequent and diplomacy less fun. Stardock needs to evaluate changes they make in terms of whether it makes the game better or just harder. Dark Avatar has some neat features, but seems mostly a jump toward the latter.

In this case it makes the game less exploitable, which is definitely a good thing IMO.

It helps the player more in the end, because the AI cannot take advantage of its massive trade advantage given to it in DA as often as the foolish human player might want! lol

I prefer to think of it more as burlesque....

I never felt having access to the other races on a whim made them exploitable. You don't get the better end of the deal in trades even with all the diplomacy techs and Galactic Bazaar. The only thing I can think of that resembles an exploit is declaring war to take a few resources then making peace. But that can be expensive because the AI will often demand a hefty price. I just don't see it. AFAIC, the change is not an improvement. It just makes diplomacy harder and less fun. But, there haven't been a whole lot of changes I don't feel this way about.

Ummm... why can't you just select one tech, select the money, hit send, then select another tech, select the money, hit send, and keep trading techs one at a time without ever leaving the diplomacy screen. It seems to work for me.

That way, you don't lose an opportunity to talk to the AI.

Heh, I can't believe I overlooked that when posting here.
What happens often though is that in the middle of trading with the AI, I need some info from the foreign relations screen which is then of course not accessible until I close the trading screen.

I have a general question about trading. Is there a way to offer up a tech, ship, planet, whatever and say "What would you give me for this?"
I have been playing GalGiv since version 1 and I haven't seen the ability to do this. And yes, it took me this long to think about asking the question!

There is no such option. Yet.

Yea thats annoying, Also if you want to check a technology before trading it.
Perhaps you could load the game on another computer?? lol

Ah like in civ4 eh? But in civ4 the AI does not give you it's best price when you do that, but if you just want to speed things up a bit and don't need to scrounge for every penny then it is great!

At least since DA in almost all the cases during trading with the AI, the AI's money slider will by default be on the maximum they're willing to give.
No more endless increasing the demanded sum by 100 bc at a time to get the maximum out of a trade deal...

Yea, that's handy, but watch out. Don't just click the button, sometimes the amount is incorrect or is much higher than what is actually required. I wiped out my treasury a few times doing that.

Hmmm so if it is an unreliable feature, then it is a useless feature.

The feature by itself works fine, but the money display occasionally drops the last digit. For example, it will say 173 but the real cost is 1730. Once you know what to look for, it's pretty obvious and easily remedied.

All you need to do is increase/decrease the ammount by 1, and the last digit will appear. Also, pay attention to the bar underneath the numeric display - the number may be off, but the bar (at least in my experience) always indicates the correct ammount.

Ah ic, it is another refresh issue to add to the list.

It may already be on the list, I've seen it come up here before.

Though, it works and saves some tedium. You just have to verify it first.
