The "New" Windows Live Suite

http://get.live.com/wl/all
Microsoft has "bundled" some of the most popular online services together in one installer to make deployment much easier.  Among these services is one of my personal favorites, and that is Windows Live Writer.  It makes it easy to create and publish blog posts to several sites including WordPress.

"Today we’re releasing beta versions of a new generation of Windows Live software designed for your Windows PC that makes it easier than ever to get connected to Windows Live or other services. This suite of software includes e-mail (
Windows Live Mail), photo sharing (Windows Live Photo Gallery), a great publishing tool that lets you post directly to your blog (Windows Live Writer), parental controls (Windows Live OneCare Family Safety), a new version of Windows Live Messenger (8.5), and more.

Starting today, you’ll be able to install the entire suite of these downloadable Windows Live services at one time, from one place, instead of going through separate installations for each service. Of course, if you don’t want the entire suite, you can still get each application individually."

Actually, I found getting this global installer instead of just the new beta 2 of Messenger to be quite off-putting. And, despite the comment about separate installations above, there seemed to be no obvious way to just get the one installer I was interested in...rather than the rest of this crapware (note Windows Live Mail is great). Right now, it appears to me to be a big step back.

Im not install full suite, just install messenger beta, and love that.

Bundles = bad. I wanted to just install Live Messenger 8.5 on my friend's new Vista laptop and the bundle installer was terrible. It was so bloody slow it took like 3 tries to actually get the thing to install. And of course I couldn't find the stand-alone installer and was having networking problems and couldn't access my files from her machine (by the time I could see my shared folders the thing *finally* installed).
