Can't change that one specific icon!

vista 32bit

Hi guys. Vista 32 bit, intel qx6800, asus extreme striker.

There's a general icon for avi files in windows vista.

I can't change it. Even when I download icon packs that contain icons for avi, mpeg, etc they don't change that one icon.

Does anyone know how to change it?

Thanks!

Edit: I've realized something, which is that the above icon is only permanent when i look at files in List mode.

is there a way to change how these files' icons look when in List mode?

thanks!

I have icondeveloper installed, so right clicking on that icon and clicking Change Icon, then choosing an icon i made through icon developer didn't work.

When i click Change Icon it shows the icon picture i chose, but even after clicking apply it stays the same.

help would be much appreciated

sometimes an icon won't change because there is a specific program associated with that type and the program wants it's own icon to be used

if you right click the icon is the program association checked to always use this program for this type?

yes, i'm just guessing... not running vista

Sorry guys but it aint IP's problem there. It actually comes back to the UAC and the version of Vista you are using it with. I'll bet you have Home Premium. Thus the UAC has very little ways of letting you control things other than being on or off.
Thus if you have Vista Ultimate - then it will be in policy where it can be changed for you to edit this. But I would just turn off the UAC and try to edit that icon with IP again and then turn it back on if you like and see if the change stays.
