Latest Stardock Newsletter about Magic Suite/OD Elite Users

"Object Desktop Elite users are users who have active subscriptions to ObjectDesktop.net past January 1, 2009."

How that ? Did I miss something ? Is there a 2 Year subscription ? Or is it a typo ?

In the Stardock newsletter I think it is clearly written: "Object Desktop Elite users are users who have active subscriptions to ObjectDesktop.net past January 1, 2009." So as I understand opportunity to become elite user isn't lost...

I remember it posted before that there was a certain date and that all active members at that point would become elite. Maybe someone remembers the exact wording, but it was on this site and posted on the main page at one point.

but that would mean today, i would have to renew for another 2 years, since my current subscription isn't up until december???? sounds shady

Whenever someone with an active Object Desktop subscription renews, it adds 1 year to the end of their subscription.

We had noticed that a sizeable number of people have renewed their Object Desktop subscriptions well into the future and we wanted to give those people something in return.

When the Magic Suite is complete (we're working on some additional WindowBlinds features with it) we'll do a database query of everyone who has an active subscription past January 1, 2009 and add the new premium suite into their account.

As for the comment about "worthy additions for Vista users" I can't help but wonder what that person was talking about.  RightClick was updated for Vista (to support gadgets/widgets under Vista wasn't easy).  We JUST released TweakVista.  The DesktopX 3.5 beta is available right now and lets you create Vista sidebar gadgets (the only program out there that lets you create rich Vista sidebar gadgets), WindowBlinds 6 is in beta and has full Vista support including glass blurring, SkinStudio 6 is out and supports the new Vista controls.

I mean seriously, Vista's been out what? 8 months? And if you look at what's been delivered I would challenge someone out there to find a better deal than Object Desktop.  Or heck, a software package that has been so completley updated to support both Vista and XP users at the same time.  My wireless keyboard isn't even supported on Vista and it cost more than all of Object Desktop does.

As an aside .  . that is one sweet looking suite!

I think that Stardock should come up with something for people who have been consistent users of Object Desktop too.

I also agree that marketing could come up with a better term than "elite".  I'll pass the feedback along.

One other thing, next year there will be a new version of Object Desktop called Object Desktop Ultimate Edition which all current subscribers will be automatically upgraded to.

Well . . . Brad has been looking to buy a new boat, plus we made some bad sub-prime loans to the Drengin and now they have defaulted and said they will shoot down any repo-ships that enter their quadrant.

Too funny

That aside, the suite IMO should offer more by way of transparency \ blurring as it is in a way promoting WB6. my 5p

Hey Frogboy, I was one of those folks who was asking questions and must admit I did get just a little irritated with being called a whinner. What started off as just trying to get some clarification made me feel really uncomfortable.

In fact I did something that I hope I won't regret. I had another discount coupon for 25% so I extended my Object Desktop subscription for another year. My math isn't all that good but with the 20% off I got extending from Dec of 07 to Dec of 08 and the 25% taking it to Dec of 09 that's like getting a year free.

Thanks for the additional feedback and info about an Ultimate Edition. You keep coming out with info that makes people want to hang around.

RightClick was updated for Vista (to support gadgets/widgets under Vista wasn't easy).

Did I miss something? SDC shows the last update for RightClick was on the 8th of June 2006. The History-file shows that this was the "skintool.exe" update for NET 2.0.

It sure is not working on Vista 64bit (crashes during customization, whenever I click a tiny bit too fast on the "ok"-button)

I just recieved the newsletter tonight. My subscription expires in October so I thought I might as well update. To reach the 09 deadline I bought 2(TWO) subcriptions but SDC still says it expires on October 17,2007. I installed SDC from the download. How do I reset this?

Ah, now it's even more clear for me. I mixed up the 'Ultimate' with 'Elite', so post #2 means the 'Ultimate' one, which is then coming as I understood it initially. Somehow I thought SD got a new term and conditions for the planned ultimate edition...

So all in all it is a nice idea to reward users who updated their subscription way beyond time.

Enter the registration info into the Object Desktop registration menu, and click update and see if that updates.  If you still have problems contact sales@stardock.com.

I'm going to check on this as I have a recent build, but I'm not sure if it was pushed out to the public yet.

MontyXP I extended my subscription yesterday also. It didn't update the expiration date until this morning. Just give the processing a littl time to catch up.

Hmm.  My SDC shows 8/6/2007 v1.24.  Let me find out about that.

Yea.  The term "elite" is just an arbitrary term invented by marketing to describe people who have long-term subscriptions (>1 year basically).  It has no real meaning outside the realm of marketing and the fact they'll get a free suite.

Object Desktop Ultimate is our long term goal to merge all our desktop enhancement products into a single mega product and simplify the regular Object Desktop.

Seriously, try explaining to the average person what Object Desktop is.  It's insane. There's like 20 things in it.  So in the future, there will be Object Desktop which will be more targeted to consumers and Object Desktop Ultimate which will target power users and (in time) integrate all our various desktop enhancements so that we can end the "oh, you need to get Object Desktop and then download this program and that program."  The integration will take some time though but that's the plan.

For those of you out there that were/are waiting, an update to Right Click was just made available.

I received that email with coupon to renew my OD in July too. So I did. But my OD yearly subscription was due to expire sometime in August anyway. I think the discount email was a bit confusing, I totally missed out the 2009 date and I would have just renewed my OD for 2 years at that time but I saw no option to do this...only the standard 1 year..

The 20% off was a good deal..I wish it had been a 2 year option..I would have taken it.
