Newb Help

Hello All

Raelin here!

Newb as of today on StarDock etc. .

I've been an artist all my life with a few years of school behind me. But I've got a few questions on getting started in the industry. Whether it be the art gaming industry, which I began my degree in or art in general. Not to toot my own horn, but I'm pretty good for the most part but just can't "get myself out there"....

Any thoughts.....any help. I am stuck in a deadend ACCOUNTING job that is driving me NUTS!!!! I need to draw!!!!!!!!!!! :o)

Thanks bunches!

Raelin!

Thats the first resume i have seen in off topic thread!

I guess it's kinda a good idea? except that this is a worldwide forum,,, oh well, perhaps you have a good passport and suit cases ready to go?

I suppose there's an implied hire-me pitch, but I read the OP as a question about the labor market, not a self-advert.

If anyone wants to help me commit the victimless crime of thread-jacking in Off-Topic, we could have a merry time carrying on about college advisors, business and accounting degrees, and the horrible rarity of deeply satisfying work experiences. IMO, it is almost nearly a crime that someone who needs to draw all day could end up with an accounting degree.

For a starter on this digression, check out: The Vocational Guidance Counselor Sketch

Assuming it wasnt a CV pitch with a difference, try these below. May sound wacky, but once you get into them they will make you think in a totally different way much to your own benefit.

Read in the following order (not expensive Amazon carry them all):

The Angel Inside by Chris Widener
The EMyth Revisited by Michael E Gerber
Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T Kiyosaki

They are not wacky journals of "Alternative ..... whatever". If you read them carefully, persevere, and take in the principles they are putting across, you will not need that CV.

But ..... If you cant be bothered reading up on topics, well, get polishing that CV some more you are going to need it ......

Regards
Zy

PS
The only thing thats stopping you Draw is ..... you. Stop telling yourself why you cant do something, start telling yourself why you can, and get on with it .... (the whole point of the first book). The rest of the world could care less you are a closet Artist in an Accountancy Firm.

"But thats the whole point, thats why I am asking" I hear the cry.

Sure is ...... so get reading. Wishing and wanting dont get things done, doing does.

Those books are not Silver Bullets, and if its Silver Bullets you are looking for, they dont exist its an impossible quest, dont bother, just shine up the CV more, you'll need it.

I apologize if I offended or posted in the wrong area . I was just hoping to get a little advice. A dear friend referred me here and thought I would ask around .

I do thank you graciously for the advice that was given. I will check out the books that Zy mentioned and go from there.

Thanks again and please, accept my apologies for any interupptions.

I was just being a bit silly as well, as I hope the Monty Python reference might indicate. Best of luck with finding work that feeds your soul.

Part of why I got snarky about accounting majors was because I have a friend who was a college advisor in the late '90s or early this decade and she actually had an accounting major in his *last* term come to her and confess that, get this, he *hated math*.

The up side is that there's more to the phrase "there's life after college" than anyone in, or even recently out of, college can properly appreciate
