OK. So now I feel cheated by Stardock

We want to thank you for being a customer and want to find out how we can better serve you. To this end, we've created a short survey with a few questions to get an idea of how we're doing and what we can do to make cool stuff for you!

When you take this brief survey, letting us know your opinion, we'll give you a coupon for $5 off any purchase of $8 or more on any of our products!

I got this e-mail today from Stardock.
So, I took their survey.
At the end was this:

Thank you for taking the time to help us make a better product for you!

Just for helping take $5 off any products from Stardock.com.

Coupon Code: SURVEY-****

Offer applies to purchases over $8.00.
Expires July 31st 2007

The coupon is only valid for 2 WEEKS???

I am not buying anything in the next 2 weeks.

The e-mail said nothing of an expiration date on the coupon, much less a coupon that was only valid for a measly 2 weeks.

I feel cheated, and I doubt I will take the time to fill out any more of Stardock's surveys.

hmmmm,
what've they got for 8 bucks?
I got the email but don't do them anyway,

I'd hope theres more than one or two items, and you'd have three of your own to cover the difference.

Will you guys quit your bit*hin?! It's not like they took your money. Build a bridge and get over it people!

...again, the devs weren't part of this promotion...

I just woke up and haven't had my coffee yet, but let me try to understand this... Frogboy can be considered the King of Devs. Stardock is run by Frogboy. Are marketing campaigns for the company done without his input or approval?

It was a noble effort to attempt damage control, but you probably should have waited until Monday.

Lets see 35$ for 5 tokens. That means that for 7$ you could (but wouldn't) get 1 token. Since the coupon bonous is 5 dollars, would it kill stardock to just give a free token? You probably wouldn't get much from one token but you would technically bet a tiny bit more, but at least it would be less complicated. I doubt stardock would go broke for an extra 2$, at least I hope not. (Note: I really couldn't care more about this situation, I'm just giving some insight.)

The very instant you show your weakness, your downfall will begin!

Hopefully, I'm just not seeing it, but so far I have not found the option to buy 5 tokens for $35. I'm not sure if it is because I have not purchased any tokens before, or if it is something else. If someone has found that 5 for $35 package, could you please link it? I'd love to be able to pick up Sins for $30.

Kez try this link > TOKENS.

IT shows both 5 and 10 for me, but as pointed out this may be because i have had tokens before. If this is the case then my apologies for getting peoples hopes up!

Go to Stardock and purchase 5 TGN tokens for $34.95.

Unless I have missed something, this supposes that you are already a TGN member. If not, you must pay 70$.

Yes - which I am not.

And, I don't have either $70, nor $35, at this point in time.
(Some of us do not have the luxury of having funds available on demand)

The promise is made invalid - by my simple inability to pay what is required, on time.

In my point of view, the coupon should not have an expiration date.
Plain and simple.

Wow. This takes the cake of the pettiest complaint I've ever read on line and I've seen some dooseys.

The survey takes like 2 minutes to do and you get 5 bucks off almost anything but they limit it to this month.

Gee, I wonder why. Could it possibly be that if they made it unlimited they'd have to deal with the coupon becoming a permanent $5 off if people ever started handing it around?

Come on. I can't think of any place that gives non expiring coupons.

Thanks for the link Drengin, but it looks like it showing the 10 tokens is because I've never done the token thing before. I clicked on it and once again all I saw was the 10 token option. Disappointing.

To be honest, that someone would have a problem with a coupon having an expiration date never occurred to us.  I think most people here expected that people would use it to buy one of the other games on TotalGaming.net such as Sins of a Solar Empire beta, Dark Avatar, Space Rangers 2, etc.

I mean, you can get the Earth 2150 trilogy for $9.99 normally (that would be about 5 after the discount).  So from our perspective, it sure seemed like a reasonable deal.

We've done coupons for years and they've always had expiration dates that are usually within 30 days tops and we've never seen anyone complain.  I don't think there's much we can do about that since any other solution would involve far more programming effort by the store development team than any coupon would be worth.

What I can do is ask the marketing team to put together a second mailer with a different coupon that expires at say the end of August and send that out to people. But an non-expiring coupon isn't possible I'm afraid.

Whatever. Forget that I ever brought it up.

Is there anyone who can confirm that the 10 tokens for $70 is the only option available to someone who has never purchased any tokens before? I'd just like to be absolutely sure before I give up on getting Sins of a Solar Empire at the present point in time. I mean I'll get it eventually, but the $30 route is what fits into my entertainment budget right now while the coupon is active.

Correct, the discounted booster packs are only available once you've bought the initial 10 at regular price.

Thanks for the confirmation Kryo, I appreciate it. I guess I'll just have to hope that Stardock does a second survey later on so I can pick up Sins for $5 off when I dont have most of my entertainment budget already allocated.

ROFLMAO! YOU FILLED IT IN!!?? LOL!! ^^

I reported mine as spam. Surveys suck.

Already own them all. Oops.

I got the survey right after I ordered Sins...

Which is a really freakin' awesome game, everyone.

Guess I'll just buy more tokens. That's a good idea
(Stardock: You better release more stuff to make it worth it! )

Thank you for the survey and the reward, I will go buy Dark Avatar in a matter of days. Does the coupon from the survey also work with the discount you get from the e-mail I received today with a 20% discount?

That would be very nice !

Yup i have now purchased Sins using the token option and the $5 coupon. However seen as Stardock were good enough to give me $5 off the purchase i decided to go for the 10 token option instead. So i still have 5 tokens left for a future game

Thanks Brad and i am glad i can now continue to support your great company!

note the absence of stardock dev comments on this thread

If ever one needed evidence that people can find a way to bitch about anything on the internet, here it is. Yes, the $5 coupon was in fact an evil conspiracy to trick you into filling out the survey. The devs didn't comment earlier because that would have blown the cover on their diabolical scheme. You are incredibly clever to have foiled their villainous plans, congratulations.

Boy, I am sooo dumb! If I had been mailed a survey by a favored game company for whom I am willing to download betas and provide game feedback and suggestions over and over for a total of many hours of web time, I think I would have just filled it out. But now I know I could hold out for a COUPON! Darn.

Thank you. My snark blaster was tuned a bit too high, and I didn't know how to respond to that poster in a civilized manner.
