Vista - ATI probs

Hi aliens,
got the bright idea to install Vista basic home edition on my PC.
Have problems ever since. It's slooooowwwws everything down (feels like driving with the handbrake on), the graphics went down the drain and the sound has issues too.
But to top it all: there is no way I can start DA..., my all time favourite game.
When I choose run application in StarDockCentral, I get an error message from Vista stating that "DALaunch.exe doesn't work anymore. The program will close (Hah, it never opened!) and you get a message when a solution is available (Yeah, sure, I'am Bill is working on it right now)"
My graphic card is ATI Radeon X1650 Pro. I use the latest catalyst driver 7.4.
Please, help me, cause the galaxy will run out of control without my firm hand to lead them.
