DeskScapes and SDC

Yeah, I know it's the wrong forum, but there's no DeskScapes forum. Anyway, why is it that SDC reports a new version of DeskScapes in Vista, but you can't update it via SDC because it asks for a registration code? DeskScapes is supposed to be FREE. What is the deal with that? SDC reports current installed version as 1.01(which came from the DeskScapes website) and a new version of 1.01.xxx(I forget exactly the number, but SD should know the answer anyway.) Is this a bug with SDC?

I'm showing 1.01.014 in SDC under Object Desktop - haven't tried downloading/installing - not running vista

It's a plot. Updated fine for me.

Civic, are you an ObjectDesktop subscriber?

Why would that have any relevance to a free product on SDC? If you can download the product in exe standalone form from the dream website SDC should be able to download the free updates as well. That doesn't make any sense.

DeskScapes is free but Desktop Earth isn't, it's for subscribers only. Make sure you don't have the sub folder selected as that contains Desktop Earth.

Yeah, I know about Earth Desktop... this was just for DeskScapes, but honestly I didn't check to see if there was a + next to it. Could have been and I just didn't catch it, but generally speaking SDC doesn't autocheck subfolders on updates, just the initial product. Case in point, with WB it only updates WB and not the subfolder of extra skins. Anyway, I'll check it out and report back.

I believe Stardock only releases the full versions (e.g: 1 or 1.1) for free, the Beta-versions are for ObjectDesktop subscribers only.

as kind of a "preview"....

You know, that makes the MOST sense so far from anyone's post in this thread. I didn't even think about that simply because I alwasy expect to see "b" after the version number indicating a beta. This must be it... sure would have been nice to keep version numbering standards consitent huh?
