To all americans: Where is the best place for a vaciton in the US?

As some of you may now i am norweigan, and me and my best friend have long planned a vacation to the US. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for a good place to start a vacation? ( We had planned to rent a car and drive trough a couple of states)
Is it true that you can rent American muscle cars? Or is just a PR trick?
I am from a small village, where all most all have some family how lives in the US.
Thirty years ago all in from my village had American cars ( off course not all), what i am trying to get to is this: I always wanted to to visited the country so many from my village worked in and lived in to. ( i remember being young boy and my father and his friend talking about American cars with 500 horsepower in them.)
A friend of my has a fire bird with 560 horsepower in it.( I think it was a fire bird)
This spring he told me i could try out, I can hardly wait.
Sorry for rambling on. But when you are raised in a PRO American village like me, well what can you say.
( I am going to have a little drinking trip this easter, so i wont be back for a few days to answer any suggestions, A friend of my has moved away, to one of the larger towns)

hehe, for plenty of people the best place to visit would be Florida. Florida has warm weather, miles of beaches, and plenty of attractions. Yes, you can rent muscle cars(expect to pay for it though^^), check online before you come to get the best rates. Hope that helps^^

Florida is a good place to start, and if your not satisfied there are plenty of more tropical destinations like the Virgin Isle, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii.

Then there is always scenic Alaska and I think a lot of the metropollisis deserve a visit especially New York or Chicago.

How about Eastbumb****?

Seriously, the only vacations I've ever been on is with my family and thats to amusment parks and tourist attractions (most in big cities like New York or Washington D.C. or in Los Angeles)...*sigh*.

When I was in California we did go to see the sequoia national park and on the way up the mountain there was a bear cub...

Take your pick of what you want to do on your vacation first - that can dictate the area you want to go to. America is vast, and you can have just about any kind of vacation you want. Scuba dive in Florida, ski in the rockies or New England - if you want to drive, I've heard California has a magnificent drive down Route 1 there.

Florida is not all that great! Very temperature extreme. Go to the florid keys if you come any where near Florida.

I dont know I find Orlando nice and mild, though they are having problems with floods right now.

Well, don't come to Boston. Big string of shooty-shooties lately. Like 17 people dead in three months. I know, I know, we New Englanders are all doom and gloom.

Detroit has lots of cars, if you're looking to pay homage to your ancestors or whatnot. Probably muscle ones too. Not really a safe place either, though. Oh well, gotta take risks in life, am I right?

You could always go to the Hamptons. Not guaranteed to be an affordable outing, however.

edit: also, don't go to florida or any of the other nearby states during hurricane season, which is coming up in a month. Hundred mile an hour winds tend to put a damper on a vacation already dampened by liters of rain.

Damn, I'm really unhelpful.

I work in the hospitality industry in central Florida and I can say that there is alot of stuff to do here. You have Disney, Sea World, Universal, Islands of Adventure (favorite), The Russian Curcus (I forget the name) plus all the beaches and water parks (Typhoon Lagoon the best). There are also alot of smaller less known places to go including haunted tour.

Why rent a muscle car when you can rent a Harley? Yes, you can rent them.
