After 1 year, AI has same weak points

Simple AI mistakes detracting from game.

Almost a year ago I posted a thorough example of AI's stagnating their growth due to stupid mistakes (spending all their money making 60 freighters).

That example addressed major races. I took a few months off from the game, came back, updated GCII and started a crippling gigantic universe game with minor races.

5 minor races started the game; 4 filled up their starport with constructors and never did another thing in the game. 4 never even moved gift ships delivered to their doorstep. The one that didn't act stupid eventually turned into an interesting diversion...even using gift troop transports to conquer other planets.

Imagine how much more fun the game would have been if all 5 minor races acted like they had a brain?

Just out of curiosity, how did the main players act during your game?

Yes the minors are quite intriguing to say the least. Rarely do they ever become any kind of a factor. Then again, they really aren't supposed to be a factor.

Blame it on a lousy AI? I'm not so sure. I think they are responding the way they were intended. Can they be better? Without a doubt. I do agree with you in that regard. I think the minor races don't want to get squished, so they keep to themselves and get squished anyway.

Isn't it the Snathi who tend to be most intelligent in their use of their military/invasions? I played a game once where a minor managed to carve out a small empire of its own, but I don't remember which one did it.

Can the base AI profile used in a minor race be changed?

I wonder if the AI intelligence is affected by your hardware platform? I have a dual core AMD64 in my system and the evil minor AI ALWAYS wipe out major goodies like the Drath or the Thalaians - at least in my large and gigantic maps. Then they come knocking on my door, usually with troop transports that they like to park outside my worlds. One race that looked like Scottlingas wiped everybody out but me and I won a "cheesy" conquest victory. I felt cheated ...

Well, there is a good reason to the check box allowing AI to use max CPU .... And this means notably to use a full CPU on a dual core system if I remember correctly
