I have wondered about this since 1.0 of Dread Lords.

Why don't all assets revert to the civ that conquer's?

Sometimes, the winning civ receives the surrendering planets, sometimes not.
Understandable.

However, the the winning civ does not receive the resource (or other) starbases nor the ships.

I wonder, why?!

Some of the ships might 'self-destruct' to avoid becoming under the control of, but, especially if the conquered civ surrendere's to the civ they are at war with, why wouldn't the resource bases revert to the winning civ?

And the ships, as well.

Some of the ship commanders, at least some of them, should surrender to the conquering side.

It is not so, however. The ships simply dissapear, as do the starbases.

Why?

And I would really like to hear from the dev in charge of this, rather than opinions from players.

in da the ships no longer just disappear

they are evenly dispearsed with other civs or they become pirates

Not evenly--who gets them depends on alignments (defeated evil races are more liable to just all turn pirate, IIRC).

I like that idea. I think there should be more pirates in the game frankly. In Civ 3, I used to have this unit with a hidden nationality that I could use to harras my neighbours without having to go to war with them. The AI was quite fond of them too, sometimes too much in fact. It would build almost nothing but them. But it sure spiced up the game during peacetime, kept me on toes.

I'd like that, except it'd force me to keep more military units around than I already have to stupid warmongering AIs.
