No Glare mini-map

-------------------------------
If you look at your mini-map there is an artificial glare cast across it. It's an arc that goes over the the top theird of the mini-map.

I'd like to mod that out, as the color shading it creates is simply too drastic for my poor old eyes to see. So... I've looked through all the gfx files but nothing seems relative to this. Anyone find the files? Or is it hardcoded?

The glare isn't very visible as it blends with the checkered 'transparent' background. If you put a layer below it and fill it with black it should be a lot easier to see; just don't forget to delete the black layer before you save it.

Thanks for the tip.

Okay, n00b question: How the hell do I install or use this mod? When I dl it, all I get is a single file called "No". I put it in my "Defaults" folder, but nothing is happening.

How do I use a mod, and will it work with an existing save?

Uly - I'll look at doing that for you.

Doommunky - First of all that filename you have is truncated. It should be No_Glare_Mini-map.zip

1. You extract the file contents using winzip or whatever unzip program you use.

2. Copy that NoGlareMinimap.exe and place it in your \\GalCiv2\ directory. Usually that's like C:\Program Files\ etc etc. My game directory is different because I install all my games to a second hard drive. So my path is D:\Games\GalCiv2

3. Once you've dropped/pasted the file there, just double click it. When it asks to over-write say "yes/ok". That's it!

Don't bother, I've already done it. Though I'm not sure how to go about uploading it to the library. I'll go have a look.

Actually, how about I email it to you and you can make an executable for it to install it, like you did with the mini-map version? Is there a private message thing on this board so can give me your email discretely?

Thanks, jpinard! I added at ".zip" to the "No" and got the files just fine!

EDIT 1:But...crap, it's not working still. Is this because I don't have DA? I'm a noob, and only have Dread Lords still. Can this work with DL?

EDIT 2: Hell yes it can! I just copied the MainWnd.dxpack file into the GalCivII/Screens directory, and all is well! Thanks so much for this. I like it!

Now if someone could get rid of ALL the glare...

Good to hear that there's progress made... Now if only it's on the Library...

Thanks for the info about the hidden alpha channel Kyro. I use CarbonUI and wanted to get that glare off the minimap as well, but jp's version in the library overwrote the black/carbon'd main taskbar in the process.

I'd have never found it myself without the black layer trick.
Finally. A no-glared CarbonUI taskbar.

Thanks.
