SDC and Vista

Stardock Central downloaded a new version on Vista today, and now when I go to look at skins, nothing is in the window. If I hover over something in the window, it's there. If I right click somewhere and click Large Preview I see that. If I left click somewhere, I get 2 or 6 or 10 icons for skins, click somewhere else, I get some more. Sometimes when I click it starts like shuffling icons into the window and then they all show up. If I click in some sub heading under Windowblinds, nothing. Go back to Windowblinds at the top, nothing, until I click somewhere and get a few.

I don't think SDC is fully compatible with Vista yet, at least as far as I can recall.

edit: I thought you meant SDC loaded a new version of another app, not SDC itself.

You can try refreshing the xml data - in the internet options.

If all else fails and the earlier version was working.. in SDC's folder there is a restore.exe which when clicked restores SDC to an earlier version, then you'll want to say no when it wants to update

SDC installed a new version of itself, right. I don't remember having a choice, I started it and it just downloaded and installed.

I tried the restore link, which is a link to a file called loader.exe, with a /restore. It didn't seem to do anything other than load SDC.

I have SDC versin 2.40.437 Build 141 after the restore attempt, is that the latest? I pull down Help/History and it doesn't show any 2.40 xx builds there at all, up to 2.39 beta.

SDC worked OK before, and if I don't have a choice whether it upgrades itself or not, I guess I can't say no.

I guess an uninstall/reinstall is in the cards, eh?

Yes that is the current version. And you do have the option whether SDC auto updates...open SDC go to tools ...Auto update ...Prompt before updating StarDock Central...also see other options available on that page.

I am only able to help with the above, someone else will come along who knows more than I

I uninstalled/reinstalled from an old download. I had to cancel the automatic download of a new version on first startup, then go to Settings and tell it to notify my. I now have v2.38.434 build 139. It's better, but I still need to scroll one screenful before anything shows up in Skins and Themes/Windowblinds. Once I scroll one screenful down, then they're all there. With the new version I had to scroll a bit and wait about 3 minutes for all the stuff to "shuffle" into the window!! Strange indeed. I thought it might be a video driver issue, but I just installed a new Nvidia driver and it's the same, although a new driver still might not fix it if that's what it is. I'll live with it for now, not using WB much as I'm still OK with Vista as is and getting used to it. Lots of different habits need to be learned in this Vista!! Oh, and the latest version is OK on my XP machine!
