WB 5.5 upgrade installs WB for XP on my Vista...?

I ran SDC this morning and it said I had 5.49f installed even though I was sure I had installed 5.5 release. I went ahead and did a re-install and now WB will not work correctly. I have removed, rebooted, and re-installed several time. I even deleted everything except the skin folders without any success. Interestingly enough when I go to reinstall it wlays shows me 5.49 f beta. Unless I force released versions only.

I am running Vista Ultimate x23 and when I install I get a message saying per pixel is not supported. ZThis is bogus because I am running Gforce Go 7600 with the HP certified Vista drivers installed.

I went into the install folder and it looks to me like the XP veriosn got isntall instead of the Vista version of WB. There is no Vista service driver in the folder at all. And wblind.dll is version 5.0.0.2

I have 5.49t installed. The 5.50.017 download appears broken (it gives out 5.10), but 5.49 should be fine anyway.

The problem may be your drivers. Try 100.64 from here http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downloads_rel70betadriver.html  that should do the trick.

Un-install whatever WB is installed now. Refresh XML in SD settings. Install 5.49t[b].051

Those drivers do not support GO chips.

I was using 100 sieries drivers with the Laptop2Go INF but had to roll back because of an incompatibility between a couple of games with the 100 series. But the problem didn't come from that as it was working fine for a couple of days. It was deffinitely to bogus update that broke things.

I now have the correct version installed however now nothing ever happens when I click Apply My Settings. No skin, no errors, nothing.

I also get an error in SDC the first time I try to install and Vista then closes SDC. If I go back it then installs correctlyu. I have a fear that this is sympomatic of whatever is still not getting fully installed correctly.

Next ideas on the skins not loading? I hasve rebooted several times without any luck.

AH-HA!

Fixed it.

Even though Aero was loaded, I went into WBConfig and forced a reload of Windows Aero. The screen flickered and even went to a Win 2K look for a few seconds. Then Aero came back. I then selected a skin, clicked apply and it loaded just fine.

Thanks for the ideas everyone.

Have a good weekend!
