Building Fleets

Buggy?

I am in desperate trouble!! I have unleashed the Peacemakers. Some of there fleets are made up of 25 ships!!!!!

They use rockets and use shields for defense. I figured I would build a medium sized frigate that used Blackhole mass and missle weapons. I chose the Aeon (sp?) point defense. In short, the perfect counter. I know that fleet size depends on your logistics skill. Mine allows for 57. Each of these fighterd takes up 7 logistic points. I am around 37 . . . I need more in the fleet. I have the ships massed together but I cannot "shift+left-click" drag to select anymore ships. I have spent over $500,000 BC making these ships. I should be able to get 7 ships in each fleet. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

p.s. I hate the peacemakers. they are ONLY attacking me despite playing the biggest universe with nine other races.

You shouldn't need to drag-select. Just get all the ships in a stack on one tile, then pick them in the list of icons shown in the main panel.

I dunno, personally i just take what i can get, i don't calculate anything mathmatically in game.

I figured it out. You have to send a ship directly on top of another. then when you select the "pile" you can see all the ships there.

But these peacemakers . . . . dang closest thing to a computer cheat.

I built a fleet of five large ships:
missles 100 damage each
Aeon (?) Point Defense System 60
Ship hitpoints 84

I barely do any damage. They have only missles and shields. BlackHole weapons don't do me any good.

p.s. the Peacekeeper fleet numbered 25!!!

I want to turn off mega events but I can no longer find the button.

You can't turnthem off in game. it is a selectable option at the begining.

Just select one of the ships in that space and press 'f' on your keyboard. the game will put as many ships as possible into a fleet. Use 'u' to unfleet them if you want. And make sure you don't have a starbase selected - this causes weird problems.

sounds like you need the aid of military starbases. You could try building very fast ships to lure enemy ships away from a key strategic location, then build up a nice large fleet of constructors and suddenly build several military starbases in one turn - don't forget to have your nice offensive fleets nearby!

^^^ i had a system with 4 millitary stations with four modules each: 3 weapons (all 30 damage each) and each station had individual perks that helped nearby fleets. Even with THAT, the Peacemakers just wiped me out. going by another post, I am toying with the idea of sending in a ship with only weapons and seeing if i can take down more of those peacemakers. so far, of the 25 I have only been able to knock it down to 22, sacrificing everything I had.

Ah well theres your problem! You wasted constructors on starbase defences, not to mention the time you wasted researching the technology!

hehehe starbase defences are useless in any game, a total waste of code. Shit, i don't even bother taking the technology off the AI in trades.

If you had researched starbase fleet assistance technologies instead, and just used those kinds of modules, you would have stood a much better chance.

Maybe I miss read something here but did I read it right that you took 5 ships up against 25? That may have working in DL but it will not work in DA. Ok I shouldn't say *will not work* but the chances of you winning are very slim. The reason for this has to do with how weapon damage and ship defense now work. Each weapon is fired individually now not as a group. So it is far better now to have 10 weapons doing 10 points each as opposed to 4 weapons doing 25 each. Also defenses now degrade. So I'm sure that out of the 25 ships shooting at you the first 10 or so managed to wipe out your ship's defense thus allowing the rest to get clean shots at the hull to do HP damage.

Without knowing your exact weapon/defense loads along with the enemy fleet it is a little harder to speculate but my guess is you went for the big single shot rather then the lots of little shots. Big single shot is good if you are fighting one or two ships. Any more then that and their numbers will overwhelm you in no time even with the best defense for their weapon type.

Whenever I'm out numbered by the enemy I start to build small cheap fighters and maybe one or two medium cruisers to support them. The small fighters are mostly weapons and a point or two of defense so I can take advantage of defense assist modules on my military starbases. The cruisers are more defense and normally a different weapon type from the fighters. Stack those into fleets and it evens out the odds of fleet combat very quickly. I still lose maybe the cruisers, which were really cannon fodder anyway, and a few fighters but it certainly wipes out the AI fleet.
