Please post the information from the WB system information page.

Also did you previously have WB on this PC and did you reboot before applying any skins?

previously have WB on this PC:
no, fresh install of vista on harddrive which never had an OS or WB installed onto

reboot before applying any skins:
AT first no, then i did, in which case WB told me i needed to reboot, and that, if i already had rebooted, to check my anti-spyware/adware blah blah since it might be blocking teh software.

I turned off all security on windows, rebooted, same messasge.

tried again, to confirm and this is the situation.

"If you have rebooted and still get this message, you may need to disable any registry protection . anti s[ware a[[s you have and reinstall windowblinds as they may be incorrectly preventing the install."

as i said before, only have windows security. which i already tried turning off.

So you get that every time?

Do you have a process called WBVista running?

If not, is the Stardock WindowBlinds service running?

correct i get that error every time. Windows boots, i try to open window blinds, and get the Machine must be rebooted after installing blah blah blah..

I do have a process called WBVista.exe*32 running, and there are two, each under Username SYSTEM with CPU at 00 , one taking around 336 K and the other around 408 k, description for each WBVista

could it be he is using vista ultimate 64 bit? i know i can not use wb on vista 64. i'm looking forward to a build that i can use. i really don't like vista's start menu.

Sorry, I thought we had made that clear.  None of the WB 5.49 builds support Vista 64 bit.

The very latest build should prompt you when you try to apply the theme and tell you that you cannot use it but it seems you cannot open WBconfig to see the error!  I have changed this to show the message on initial load.

We do have internal builds which work on Vista 64 bit, but they need more internal testing before we put them up.

I had the same problem on installing WB 4.9s[b].050. When I rebooted, I got an error from Vista telling me that it could not recognize the interface, and promptly rebooted. After returning from the reboot, only Classic mode would work, until I restored the previous archive of WB 4.9o[b].049, then rebooted. Thankfully, this restored my desktop properly. However, Stardock Central now says that I currently have WB 4.9s[b].050 installed (even after I had uninstalled it.) Any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks. (still no joy on how to enter a CR/LF in one of these forms.

ok thanks for the reply Neil. Can you give an estimate as to when a beta and final release for 64bit will come? thanks.
